Any recommendations on treatment to prevent the tarnishing of the sterling sliver pens if they do not get used enough to prevent the tarnish from forming. One Idea I had was simple auto wax - should form a thin layer to stop the process - but do nothing to the underlying silver of the pen.

One thing to consider is to avoid keeping silver surfaces in contact with unlined leather surfaces, like leather pen holders. The chemicals used for tanning or colouring the leather material sometimes speed up tarnishing on contact surfaces considerably. A lining on the leather is sufficient to prevent this.
