Full Version: What did you get for Christmas?

I'm very sorry to say I have none myself. I bidded on a couple on the dreaded, usual desultory bids, but to no effect.

Anyone have a better time than me?

Any bought/received, new or old?

Nothing new for me since the bargain (but immaculate, with a beautiful fine Duro20 nib) one band CS100 picked up a few weeks before Christmas! I wrote my Christmas cards in a nice red R&K ink with it, just to test the cleaning and new sac, but it has now been cleaned out again, hopefully to be traded in the forthcoming year. Meanwhile I'm more in selling mode due to an imminent dental bill for a new crown on a tooth later this month!

I'm interested in your new avatar, Greg. Is the perspex display nib one you own? I had one of these a few years back, which I ultimately (and possibly stupidly) traded for pens, but they are lovely things and I've only seen one other offered since then.

My family showered me with fountain pens, ink and paper!!!!!!
My husband has decided that my hobby is great when it comes to present buying---he no longer has to think what I might like smile.gif

So, I have now added to my collection:

A Conway Stewart 58 (1949?) in a dark blue marble with a beautiful wet, fine, Duro nib

An Esterbrook J (blue) with a fine 9550 nib

A Pelikan 200 in transparent blue with a fine nib

A Waterman Kultur, clear, with a fine nib

A Lamy Vista with a medium nib

8 bottles of ink

lots of paper

I can be found for the best part of the day "playing at my desk"

The other half also likes the way my presents have kept me quiet since Christmas smile.gif

Sometimes its just the simple things. My wife's daughter took a chance and knowing nothing about fountain pens, rescued a J. Harris & Co. BCHR pen from an antique store and sent it to me as a Christmas gift. As it turned out the condition was pretty good, the nib was intact (and really flexible), and it was easily resaced and polished up. Not high value, but priceless.

Nice one, penspender, this is the sort of pen that, to my mind, is more interesting than another immaculate example of a well known pen (which are interesting enough!). Hope you enjoy it.

Walter's daughter seems to have it pretty well sewn up, grat to have people giving gifts that are the result of some knowledgable buying.

Any pics, Wd?

Will try to post some photographs when one of my "Techno-sons" has time to help me!

My beautiful, wonderful other half, yes, the one in the pic on the left (ok, I know it's a bit sickly, but try not to throw up sick.gif lol) gave me a gorgeous CS Trafalgar. I was a little concerned about the weight at first, but if feels fantastic to hold, beautifully balanced and absolutely incredible to write with and that colour!!! No photograph I've seen does it justice at all, it really is absolutely spectacular. Needless to say, I'm in madly love ... and with the pen as well tongue.gif

Nice, Alan, you must have been a very good boy!

I know nothing about MBs, are those vintage pens (and pencil)?

The 142/172 set is vintage early 1950s and although a bit small for my tastes write very well, and I love the fact that it is a piston filler with screw cap, unlike the later 144s and 145s.

I got my first Conway Stewart, from my husband, a 76 in herringbone blue-black. I was also given an "allowance" , by my husband, kind of like a use anywhere gift voucher, to find a Sheaffer. Got a beautiful Sentinel pen and pencil set right here in the Marketplace! Only four months til my birthday . . . . wink.gif
Greg
A Herringbone CS was one of the first on my wish list. I wanted a green one then a red, for red ink use. I have neither so any pics would be appreciated!
