Full Version: M605 - What's the catch?

I'm seeing this pen around a lot and at what appears to be deeply discounted prices (< $150). I know that unlike the other pens in the 600 series this has silver tirm but are there any other differences?

I used to have one I got from Levenger. I could be wrong but it was originally made for
Levenger (or they might have meant that the set with a little Pel pen stand and 605 was made for them).

There was no defference in quality from other Souverean series, and mine wrote very well.

I read a few days ago in another thread that they are discontinuing X05 series so probably that's why they are discounting them. I think it's a great buy if you like the color.

I bought the 605. Also for a bargain price. Blue, silver trim. I wondered the same things (whats wrong with it?) But I love the pen.

I don't know why it's marked down, but at a certain point, everyone seemed to have them for lower prices. I like the colors too

I really shouldn't get another Pelikan, but... Where are these places?

I bought mine from Levenger more than a year ago, also at a close out price. It is my only Pelikan, so I can't compare it to the classic models. On it's own, it is a great pen, light, super smooth, reliable, etc.

Seriously, let me know where I can get a 605 for less than $150.

Nevermind..found it. wink.gif

I got one last year at closeout at Altman luggage for $127 including shipping. The medium nib was smooth and wet, but too broad for my hand so I put a Binder .5mm cursive italic in it and now it's my favorite writer. It's a limited production item and I think some places are just trying to clear their stock so it's a great time to grab it. I saw it last week at Fahrneys for $140, I think, which is a great bargain. Perhaps others here can point you to a better deal?

I like the size and dynamic of the 600 series so much that I decided I needed a "backup" 600. I have a Grand Place coming in the pipe from Farhney's also. They only wanted $180 for it, which I think is a really crazy price. For a couple of weeks they had the blue demonstrator version available for $155 (or something like that) and now it's back up to $235.

So I don't think there is a catch, some places like getting crazy on prices to get you back to their web site. Works for me -- I never ordered anything from Fahrney's before and I'll be hitting their web site regularly.

Some amateurish photos of my M605 at this thread (click here).

I have an M405, same trim as HDoug's (blue/silver). Fantastic pen and my current daily user.

I wouldn't mind at all if it were bigger. An M605 might fit that bill exactly.

Where does one find the aforementioned $150 pen? wink.gif

Saw one at Fahrney's today.

"Amateurish"? They could easily be used as advertising photos!

I was thinking the same thing...those are stellar.

And the handwriting is terrific! Lord, I wish I could write that nicely!

this has been discussed in a previous thread.

in summary, as i recall,

(1) it was a version for the n.american market.

(2) it was not popular (to me silver furnishings have always looked cheap and I think most n.americans prefer gold furnishings.)

(3) it was discontinued sometime ago and they are still trying to clear the distribution channels.

(4) there is absolutly nothing wrong with the pen in quality and function, it is exactly the same in those respects as the more popular and hence expensive m600 models.
