Nice, but I shudder to think of the price. ;-)

"A Work of Art, Built by Human Hands

Independent, wild and of sublime strength and beauty - this is the showcased imagery of Artemis, the Greek mythological goddess of fruitfulness, hunting and war. In her honor and in order to appease her, the Artemis Temple in Ephesus was sanctioned and begun by Croesus of Lydia. Pelikan dignifies this architectural masterpiece through the limited edition of "The Temple of Artemis" writing pen.

In savor of the finalization of the temple in the year 440 B.C., the limited edition "The Temple of Artemis" writing pen is limited to a worldwide total of 440 writing instruments. The limited edition "The Temple of Artemis" fountain pen is a unique creation from the master of pen-making. It is made most impressive by the perfect workmanship and the differentiated design of details.

The case
This limited edition is presented in an artistic case made of stone casting, modeled after the portal at Artemis' Temple."

Our price is $3,000.00. This is a noticeable cut below MSRP, as you might imagine. blink.gif

Does it come with a pair of shades, for people who might actually ink and use them? roflmho.gif roflmho.gif roflmho.gif

I think it is already a collectible item. The craftsmanship and quality of this pen are amazing.

My friends: collectable or not, it's wayyyyy over the top (no pun intended). If the brand was air-brushed out, I would have thought this was another creation by Krone.

I think it's at least a little bit more tasteful than a Krone.. Overall design is simpler and cleaner, even if it is still kind of crazy, and very... bright. smile.gif I think it's pretty and has merit as art that you could occasionally write with, whereas most of the Krone LEs I can't even imagine displaying. Still.. that is prohibitively expensive!

I'm not picking on anyone but I do find it amusing...

people that tend to dislike Pelikan often say it is largely because their pens are boring and that there LEs are all just variations on the Souveran series.

Pelikan makes a less-than-boring, definitely non-Souveran LE and it's "over the top. "

I happen to agree it's over the top, but then I like the "boring" Pelikans. I wouldn't put it in the Krone category though unless it has fossilized Greek excrement or a lock of hair from Artemis (yes, I realize this is a mythological figure) embedded in it somewhere.

It's not what I'd want in a pen, but it is rather appealing as art.

Love my Pelikans tongue.gif Never, ever thought they were boring. I'm truly a fan of their straight-forward, non-gimicky styling that's backed up with their reliability. However, that pen wants me to climb to the front of a large ship and shout "I'm king of the world!" laugh.gif

Wishing everyone on here a happy, healthy, and peaceful 2007

Can't Pelikan find a middle ground? I mean, between "Krone" and "boring"?

Now, don't get me wrong...I LIKE my M800...it's a reliable pen (although the nib is a little scratchy for me).

This Temple of Artemis doesn't even look like a pen....which makes me wonder if it is really all that ergonomically friendly to write with.

It is wildly not to my taste, but for those who enjoy it, I wish them no ill. biggrin.gif

I don't think Pelikans are boring either, I think they are lovely and reliable and just right. They are the Jimmy Stewart of pens. Cary Grant isn't for everyone.

It does seem to be quite a burst out of the box for Pelikan! But I am pretty ignorant about pen history, so maybe they've done things this, um, dramatic in the past.
kenny
By the way, I assume for that price it is a precious metal pen?

I bought one, but it was DOA when I got it, nib was real scratchy, had to throw it in a padded envelope and ship it off to Chartpak for tuning.

That is one ugly piece of work. It only confirms my belief that the suits at Pelikan should spring some bucks and hire an industrial design man.

OTOH, it will probably turn out to be a very valuable collection piece in another hundred years. It is so unattractive that most of them will be thrown out by the current owners' decendents as junk before the estate sale. Hence, in the next century in will probably be extremely rare.

Similarly to the Colossus of Rhodes, the Temple of Artemis appears to me cold and unispiring, despite the greek theme. In fact I find them both very unclassical, very ungreek sad.gif I agree that Pelikan is doing a poor job with these LEs...

It reminds me of a tourist shop novelty pen. blink.gif

I saw these advertized in the last issue of Penna. I just shook my head and turned the page.

I also do not find Pelikans a bore. I am after utility, and Pels deliver. I do like some LE's, but I agree a middle ground would be nice.

I can give definition to the kind of LE I will spend money for. Giardino Italiano (no affiliation) had a really nice 10th Anniversary LE called the "Giardino di Boboli" by Stipula. It was an edition of 39 pens (why 39?) based on Stipula's "Nettuno 'Idra'" LE from several years back (an edition of 511). The pen is made of a lovely moss green aged celluloid that is hand crafted. The gold trim is modest and tasteful. The nib is one of Stipula's champion writers. The "bling" is in the aged celluloid, the hand crafting, and the great writing nib. It is a subtle but lovely work of art that can be a daily user. This LE was my main Christmas present this season, and I am so very happy with it. (I sincerely regret I am not up to speed posting pictures. However, someone DID post some great pictures in the "Photo" forum a while back.)
