Cool topic -
There's also a charcoal Safari. And the transparent demonstrator is called Vista and is, for some reason, marketed as its own model.
I don't know if Al-Star counts - it's the same design as the Safari, but it's made out of aluminum and is also marketed as a different pen. It comes in it's own array of colors - silver-blue, graphite, silver, green, etc.

If I'm not mistaken, there are two orange models: the original Safari, and the later "Flame" LE with a red clip.

When they initially came out there were
Savanna Green and
Terracotta Orange. Has anyone mentioned gray (whitish one, not charcoal)?

For Al-Star there was a limited color called "Blue Star". It was sold only in Itoya in Japan.

Yeah, the person with green one says it came with a cartridge and converter. The converter looks like press-bar type. It might look better than current one in Vista

Wow, it's really interesting to see other safari colors I haven't seen before.
So, it looks like we are up to this:
Safari- Charcoal (black)
- Blue
- Red
- Orange
- Terra Cotta Orange
- Flame LE w/red clip
- Blue SE w/red clip
- Yellow
- Gray
- White
- Vista (clear demonstrator)
Al-Star- Aluminum
- Blue Aluminum
- Green Aluminum
- Graphite
- Blue Star
Any more?
EDIT: to add colors.

Safari Gray. Current Gray might look like white, but
White was discontinued in 2002.

I think so, yes. The gray is still pictured on the Lamy USA website. I saw the gray pen at my local Paradise Pen store a few weeks ago. I'm fairly sure it was not the true white version, although upon first glance the gray appears to be white.

Found a photo of all the Safari colors together on this
page. According to this page the names of the colors are:
- Savanna Green
- Terracotta Orange
- Alpin (white)
- Charcoal (black)
- Safari (yellow)
- Sky (blue)
- Gray (gray)
- Hot (red)
- Flame (orange)
- Royal Blue (blue with red clip)
According to this page, Gray has been discontinued, too. If you see one you should grab it!

This photo is missing Terracotta Orange and includes Vista.
I've been talking like a Safari expert, but I am not. I have had one Safari (which is MIA), an Al-Star (which I sold) and a Vista RB I use as a loaner pen

Safaris are so popular in Japan right now and I can find tons of information on Japanese web sites.

I thought I might have one more to add to the list of Al-Stars.
I was in Berlin early last summer and saw a special edition Silver/Grey Al-Star with the signature of a certain football player.
Haven't got a pic at the moment as I didn't buy the pen, but I'll try do a search for some photos.

Before reading the thread, this is what I knew of:
Black (Textured Charcoal)
Blue
Red
Yellow
White
Vista (clear)
Orange (Flame w/red clip)
All-Star Blue (aluminum)
All-Star Silver (aluminum)
All-Star Green (aluminum)
Light Blue w/Red clip (aka Smurf blue)
Putty, kind of a fleshy, Silly-Putty, generic PC case color
Gray
I've got all but the last two colors, which I thought were butt-ugly.
No greens yet though.
----------------------
After reading the thread, I've got more comments:

1. So there IS a green one. Is it textured, like the Charcoal?

2. I've never seen the TerraCotta, but it exists

3. Someone mentions two other AL All-Stars: Graphite and another blue rather than the light blue. Are those real?
4. I don't see anyone mention the "putty" color. I saw it in a store. Could it have been an off-color gray? It definitely didn't look gray to me though.

Skip, yes, Savanna Green and Terracotta ones (the two original color from 1980) are textured.

Not sure about putty color. Could it have been either white or Gray?

There's a possibility that the Putty color that I saw was an off-color Gray, but I'm very certain that it wasn't neutral gray in color and definitely wasn't white. Why am I sure? I distinctly remember talking about the color with the salesguy and remarking that the pen looked a very ugly, putty color. He said that they had only sold one of that color and that he expected it to be remaindered by the corporate office soon. This was about 3-4 years ago.

Actually you are seeing Japanese language pages with question marks because your computer does not have Japanese fonts (
mojibake). It should be displayed properly once you install Japanese Language Pack if your computer is Windows. I don't know if you need to do anything special if you have Mac - I think all you need to do is just to add Japanese in the language setting of the browser.

When I first saw the Safaris, I didn't want to like them - they seemed too "designy" in a bad way - but my trusty green Allstar EF has won me over, and now I love them. Got yellow and red Safaris, and look forward to picking up another Allstar or two. Great knockabout pens!

The names are official Lamy names in Germany. They may not be used in other markets.
Al-star colours are: silver (alu), graphit, silverblue, silvergreen, lilac (unsure about the real name).
There are two kinds of Joys: all black and black body with silver cap.

I still have my first Safari from the early 80s, and it is black/charcoal, with the Lamy logo sunk in, but it isn't textured. This is particularly apparent now, because the inside of the lid broke up so that it wouldn't clip on nicely, and Lamy very kindly sent me a new lid (absolutely free of charge - there's service after 20 odd years), which IS textured. So it is now a bit of a mongrel, but I love it.

Apr 12 2007, 05:27 PM
I don't know if the Lilac one actually exists, but I will note that I believe the Graphite color has a lilac-ish tint to it that does not show up in some photos. For example, the photo of it on the LamyUSA website makes it look gray, but the photo of it on the Swisher Pens website makes it look like a cross between the Lamy photo and that eBay auction photo.
I do know for sure that there is an Al-Star color that looks close to the Swisher Pens photo of the Graphite--I've seen it in person. I never knew the actual color name of it before seeing the photo, but I think it's a match for the one I'm familiar with.

The seller told me that it was indeed lilac, a "special edition" color. I guess I'll find out the truth when it arrives in my hands in a week or so......all the way from Thailand. $35 shipped. As long as it's not silver, it'll be one that I don't have, so I'll be happy.
