Can someone tell me about Zoom nibs? I see postings for them on an auction 'site; however, haven't run across a description of their characteristics. Thanks!!!!

I tried one fairly recently at a store in Chicago. It was on a Sailor 1911. The nib is designed so that you get a fairly noticeable variation in line width according to the vertical angle at which you hold the pen. More vertical = narrower line, more horizontal = wider line. It worked quite well. Writing with it was smooth and effortless. The range of line-width variation was good.

Here's a picture of the tipping of Sailor's zoom nib from John Mottishaw's website, www.nibs.com:

He's got a good description of the nib and a couple of writing samples.
Here's a link to the page:

edited to add: OK...now that I've read more (thanks...should have 'googled' it too), wow, extremely interesting nib! I agree with what folk have written though: I should try it out before purchasing. jsonewald, did you purchase after test-driving?
