Hi all,

Can anyone decode the Namiki serial number system ?

I gather they use now 11 numbers:

XXYYYYZZZZZ

I think YYYY is the FP number itself, because usualy is inebbed in the top of the clip.

But the other numbers are a mistery to me - some of the numbers might identifie the Year of fabrication and the collection the FP belongs to - but, what do I know ?

Can anyone advise.

Hi again,

It is difficult to get information in the net about Namiki - the only information is on it's history, the collections and some sales offers.

This makes the decoding of the serial numbers more interesting.

Hope anybody can help.

Thanks

Unless this is a very recent development, I do not think Namiki uses serial numbers.

The number to which you infer must be the model number. For example, I have a Pilot (Namiki, overseas from Japan) Bamboo in front of me with the following number on the clip tag and box. There is no serial number on the pen.

FBB2MR-B-M20000

F = Fountain Pen
BB2MR = Model Code (there might be an internal definition of the letters and numbers)
B = Color
M = Nib Size
20000 = Price of the pen in Yen.

There is a lot of information available about Pilot/Namiki on the net and there are many knowledgable collectors and salespeople who can assist with questions. What information do you seek?

If you wish to see an online catalogue you can visit thier website: http://www.pilot.co.jp/products/pen/index.html

An online dealers site is:

For rudimentary translations of the above, cut and paste at babelfish.com.

Hi stan

Thanks for Your reply.

Your information is valuable. and I found the issue more intriguing because the namikis sold in europe have a garantee that identifies the pen (for instance "concubine"), the collection it belongs to (for instance "Nippon Art") and a number (for instance 86023419386, is the number in the garantee of a pen I have owned).
The pen I have owned only have a number in the clip, in the case being 0234.
No lettters whatsoever!
No refference in the box.
It's a legitimate product bought in an authorised dealer, but they too don't know the decoding of the number on the garantee (or warranty)

Perhaps they use different system for pilot.

thanks

Hi.

Sounds like it's a warranty number and not a serial number on the pen. If it is just the number of the warranty, the number has no significance.

I've not heard of anyone copying Pilots or Namikis (they are the same - just use different names for different markets) so it is not a fake.
