Full Version: Should I buy an M800?

Ok here's the situation: I have a Lamy 2k with an EF nib which on good paper is fantastic - always interesting and fun to use. Being such a fine nib I don't think of it as a "go anywhere" pen but lots of fun at work and writing at home.

I also have a Pelikan M215 F which is really quite wonderful. Beautifully consistent and it gives a feeling of great security. My writing simply looks neater with this pen and it looks good writing on anything. This would be the one to take anywhere.

Well, I've found a very good price for an M800. I have warmhearted blessing from my saner half and I guess I'm set to buy one, but I can't help wondering if there is anything it would give me that I haven't already got. I'm not much of a collector and tend to like to use what I own.

What are your thoughts? Any help appreciated. BTW I'm leaning towards the Black with gold trim simply because it looks a little more vintage/ classic than the black 805.

I'd love to hear what you think. smile.gif

those of us who own one (or two, like i do) will of course say yes. get it if you want size and heft--it'll be quite a change from the 215, so the best thing is to test one at at your nearest stationer's.

I see three possible reactions compared to the 215:

1. I love the larger size and feel, and the gold nib is nice.

2. The 215 is the perfect size, the 800 is too big.

3. This is the same pen, only bigger - who cares?

Only you know which of the above reactions you will have.

Note that the weight difference between a 215 and an 800 is not that great, due to the 215's metal "wrapper".

That would be the way to go but I live in a Pelikan free zone so there is a fair bit of speculation on my part when it comes to buying new pens. I will be in Sydney in January but it is quite tempting to get a pen for Christmas and I don't think I can expect the quote I've received to hold for very long.

It might be hard for anyone to give definitive advice here I imagine. I guess I'm using the forum as a sounding board for ideas.

cheers,

David

It's good to know that it doesn't seem much heavier. I quite like the weight of the M215 and I don't feel the need to go for a lighter pen.

There probably is some weight difference, but the size difference is definitely what counts here. I don't even know which of the pens is heavier.

By all means buy it. If it does not work out you can make the price even better and I will take it off your hands. wink.gif

Ha! I hadn't thought of the community service I'd be doing if I end up selling it again!

Well thanks to those who chimed in. It was a bit of a non-question really but I appreciate the responses.

The pen is bought... the waiting has begun. Regardless of when it arrives I won't open it until Dec 22. Hey! I got a new pen on the way. biggrin.gif
