Some of you may remember that I've had bad experiences with the Lamy 2000. Every time a question about the pen comes up, I'm there to remind people that I've had three, and none of them have written worth a darn. Some didn't have good flow while others had quite scratchy nibs or nibs with very, very small sweet spots and sharp edges.

Well...fourth time's a charm. I picked up yet another 2000 from a fellow FPNer, and it arrived today. I have to say, I'm quite impressed: the nib is silky smooth and a consistently wet writer. I've tried it on a variety of papers, and I'm very, very pleased with the performance. Not only is the pen a smooth writer; it has a nicely expressive nib by modern standards, which produces beautiful shading with Diamine Prussian Blue.

Anyway, I just wanted to finally give my recommendation of this pen. Maybe the quality control isn't tops or maybe I just had terrible luck with these, but it's a sweet pen once you get a good one.

Just another testament to never giving up biggrin.gif

I think it's a wonderful pen but I can see how some might get something that doesn't work for them. My F was a gem from new, but sadly it got damaged. When it came back from Lamy with a new nib the feed was so generous that I felt I'd lost all the lovely line variation. It went back and now has an EF nib with less flow and is better than ever. I'm amazed at how it can write such thin but perfect fast loops and the extra colour on stronger lines makes it very expressive.

I'm glad you're enjoying your new 2k. I find mine has loads of personality. smile.gif

I got mine on Wednesday and I'm pretty impressed too! It's not as fine as I thought a Fine would be - its as wide as my Medium Al-Star.
I've also noticed that I continually get a sheen of ink on the silver part of the barrel when its uncapped, and it returns even after its been wiped away.
Started off with Diamine Royal Blue but it feathered horribly on the paper I was suing so switched to WM B/B - much nicer. Nib is so smooth, its a pleasure.

I finally gave in and pulled the trigger on the Lamy 2000. I have to wait a few days to get it because I want an XF nib, and Todd at Isellpens doesn't have one in stock at the moment. Can't wait to ink it!!! tongue.gif

I have one in EF too, and while it's more of an F nib, I still love the 2000. I look at it as a great "luxury pen" that's very durable. I suppose I had very good luck with mine as this is my first and only 2000. Good on ya for not giving up, Ryan! cool.gif Mine's a keeper. biggrin.gif

Ryan,

I'm really glad to hear that you are enjoying your L2K. Your persistence paid off. I think the L2K is a whopping bargain for the price: piston, sensitive hooded nib, stylish lines, durable finish.

BTW - - how does the Prussian Blue compare to Waterman Florida Blue or Pelikan Royal Blue? I have the two latter, but have been interested in Prussian Blue.

Russ:

Prussian Blue is just a touch darker than Waterman B-B, in my opinion. They are similar inks, to be sure, but I find the Prussian Blue just a hint more appealing due to better saturation of color.
