Can anyone identify my late Dad's pen please? The short clip made me think "Compact" but it's 5 and 1/8 inches long capped. Also it's a white spot but it's not gold nibbed and as I understand it the white spot Compacts were. Then I thought it was an Imperial but it's got the arrowhead nib and the short clip.

Please help. I can't stay up until 3am again searching. I'm new to penhunitng. It's quite compulsive isn't it?

I think that's a Sheaffer Triumph Imperial ... I have one very similar with the "Arrowhead" Cutout Inlaid nib -- same cap, but the barrel on mine is black. I bought mine on eBay, not knowing what I was buying. But for $4.00, I figured the risk was low. tongue.gif

Thank you girlieg33k. That looks like it. Back in the early 'sixties (possibly late 'fifties) someone bought my dad a lovely black pen that my early-hours research has shown me was a PFM. Being an engineer he was fascinated by the snorkel action. I was very young at the time and it felt like holding a tree trunk to me! Don't know what happened to it. Possibly it finally gave up the ghost and he replaced it with the one I have now.

Thanks again for your help.

You're welcome, Steve. By the way, I was just browing eBay, and saw this in case you were wondering what they're going for...

Granted this listing is for NOS, but I think the $4.00 I paid for mine was a total fluke.

who thinks it looks like some variety of Sheaffer Imperial

OOOH! That looks like what I believe is a Shaeffer (Triumph?) Imperial 440, by the shape of its nib inlay and the slightly shorter stubby barrel end.

It seems Sheaffer had a bewildering number of names for very similar pens, but I had one just like yours for years and still miss it---it's truly a great pen. Thanks for the pic!

Hisnibs.com had a few of these for sale (sadly the wrong nib size for me) at <http://www.hisnibs.com/imperials.htm> but the page hasn't been accessible recently.

Regards, Eric.
