hi. i recently purchased a parker 51 pen and pencil set. after much googling, i have determined that the color is midnight blue and that they are demi aerometric pens. they are in beautiful condition and come with a parker 51 box. i paid $65.00 for the set. i have been unable to find the pen value, but i did see a site selling the pencil for $70.00. i wish i could post a pic, but don't have the means. could anyone tell me more about this set? year produced? value? thanks so much, any help is appreciated!

Rachel,
Go to www.parker51.com or www.richardspens.com
You will find just about everything you ever wanted to know on these sites--both are very well done. Welcome to the world of Parker 51s. You will have more soon. OldGriz has several posted on the Market Place that are spectacular examples of 51 sets.

thanks so much for the links, they turned out to be very helpful. i found a 9 engraved after the made in usa marking. i guess this would be 1949. after looking at old griz's 51s for sale, they look most like the first set of his from 1948 (demi-aero), except the color on mine is midnight blue (i think). so far it would seem i got a nice deal on them.
you are right about getting more, these things can get addictive.
thanks again!

Sounds like decent deal on the whole. Aero fill pens tend to work, but still often need cleaning and inkflow adjustment etc which can run $30 or so.
If set really is clean i would retail it about the sum of your cost plus cleaning :-)

Heh, heh, heh. You have no idea. Welcome to FPN. I believe you got a good deal, though maybe not a "Grizzy" (absolute steal). Enjoy, but try to maintain self control, don't want to see you have to apply to FPN 51aholics Anonymous.
