I thought I'd have better luck on FPN with the question after all.

Does anyone have any personal experience using this ink. I know it's "vintage" and not made any more but if one came across a full bottle of unopened ink, would it be okay to use? And, if anyone has used any, what was it like quality wise?

(TIA)Thanks in advance...

Full unopened bottles should be fine, unless there's gunk or stuff floating on the surface, or you get a really horrible nasty smell when you open up the bottle. Test with a q-tip swab first...

I've never had a chance to try Sanford Penit.

Sorry, didn't see the reply sooner...went out of town after posting the original message.

At the time I had just snagged a box of 12 full, unopened and pristine bottles of Sanford's Penit ink for fountain pens off of eBay. There are nine colors with two bottles of three of the colors in the original cardboard store display box.

So far I've opened 2 of the colors and there was nothing gunky or floating in the ink and no smell either. I've used the washable Royal Blue and the Green and I like them! The green is not intense or saturated but a nice, soft vintage color. Don't know what the other colors are like yet but I do intend to eventually open them all to find out.

Thanks for the response!

I was interested in a 1920s Sanford ink bottle on eBay and the seller offered to fill it with vintage violet Penit ink from a quart bottle he had. I was already overextended and didn't bid on it. How I wish I had. If you're out there, seller, give me a second chance! Nobody bid on that bottle and maybe you still have it. I haven't found Sanford violet ink offered since on eBay in the times I've thought to check.
