I was at Ritz camera today and picked up a great little accessory for SLR cameras with a built in flash. It's called the Soft Screen by LumiQuest.

It attaches easily and softens the flash considerably. Here are a few pictures I took with it.

It doesn't replace a light tent, but for 15 bucks, it's great for quick shots when you don't want to drag out the tripod and all the other gear.

These pictures were taken with a Canon 20D and Vivitar 100mm f3.5 lens with the camera's built-in flash. The watch and text pictures were taken at the closest focusing distance of the lens. Even at such a close range, about 10 inches from lens to the subject, the lighting is even. I like it!

Nifty idea!

Did you take this picture with just your camera's flash and the lumiquest over it with no additional lighting? If so, I MUST get one of these screens!

Hi Betty,

No, that one was shot with my homemade light tent and two 110 volt ac flash assemblies. The Soft Screen works well, but not quite that well. It is very handy for quick shots, and amazingly good for impromtu portraits.
