Hi, I just received this Pelikan 600 today and had hoped to get some advice from FPN. You can view pictures of the pen

I was surprised to see that the pen was identical in size to my pelikan 200(4 15/16 capped, 5 7/8 posted, cap dia 1/2, barrel dia 3/8). I remember reading somewhere that older 600 series pens were smaller that current 600 pens, but I am not sure by how much. Is there a way to tell if this is a 600 or 400 other that by the dimensions? I think the nib is supposed to be larger on the 600 is that true of old vs. new? My nib measures 20mm long x 7mm wide it is 2 tone and is stamped 18c-750. I thought i was getting a decent deal on a 600, now I am not so sure, I paid $104 including shipping. For less money I could have purchased that m215 that I have had my eye on. Any thoughts? thanks greg,

Hey Spanky,

I'm not an expert on Pelikan pricing, but I think that you got a good deal. Used m400's seem to go for around $90 to 100, so it seems that getting a m600 for that price is a pretty nice bargain. It wasn't a "steal" but it was definitely a fair price for a pen that appears to be in excellent condition. biggrin.gif

Also, remember that if you were to have purchased an m215, it would come with a steel, not a gold nib. I think that the steel Pelikan nibs are greater writers, but in general, most people feel that a gold nib is worth more. So I think that you did okay. An m215 is a heavier pen than the m400/600 because of it's brass construction, which some people like.

Is this your first Pelikan?

Like TMann, I'm also a non-expert, but I'm pretty sure that's an m600. These older m600s are the same size as the m400, but they have more elaborate trim. For example, m400s from that time don't have a metal trim ring at the section.

Nice pen! I hope you enjoy it!

edit: I'm actually not sure if yours is identical to an m400 in size. It may be larger as I'm not sure when Pelikan enlarged the m600. Either way, I'm pretty sure it's an m600. I do know that the m400 is 4 15/16' inches, so you can always measure.

The old style M600s were of the same size as the M400s, just more trim rings (piston knob) and 18k nibs for the export market. Your price is ok. The new M600 came out around 1997.

This is an old style M400 without the trim rings on he piston knob.
