Full Version: Adjusting height of Pelikan nibs

Question for the nib gurus of this forum:

How does one go about adjusting the length of a Pelikan m200/400 nib to make it the same length as the m600 nib? Or conversely, how does one make an m600 nib shorter so that it fits properly in an m200/400?

Are the nibs cemented onto the feed? And is this something that the average FP user can do, or is it technically pretty difficult?

I've never heard of anyone doing it. Why risk breaking it? They are not meant to come apart that way.

I imagine this isn't possible. You would be better off to buy the correctly sized nib unit instead. smile.gif

Well, let me clarify my question a bit. About a year ago, I purchased a steel nib for a Pelikan m600. Since the nib was originally designed for an m200, Richard Binder "moved" the nib a bit on the feed, so that it would be the "correct" length in the m600. It would have been just fine as it was; it was merely an aesthetic issue.

My question when is how hard is it to do that? Just because Richard B. does something, doesn't necessarily mean that the average FP user should be trying it!

Hi,

Pretty much, it is not very hard, but then it is not very easy. It takes some trial and error.

The feed and nib are quite snug in the collar, so you would need a threaded Pelikan nib block, and knock out rod, and a small knock out hammer.
