So I was fortunate enough to pickup my first Parker "51" in the FPN Marketplace here. It's a smooth writing pen which I've filled with DC Supershow Blue, and I've been enjoying it's simplicity and wet flow at work for the past couple of days. Having said that, there was nothing spectacular about this pen, it was just a good pen, one I knew that had a lot of history and a lot of admirers in the FP community.
Well, as I indicated in another post, I am in the process of buying my first house. This morning I officially went to sign all the papers and close on the purchase. It wasn't until I was on my way to the office to sign all the docs that I realized I hadn't even put much thought into what pen I was going to use to sign the papers! I'd given it no thought the previous evening, and in the morning I had just grabbed my two-pen leather case and headed out the door. Thus, I had two pens on my person: my $33 pen and my new Parker "51". Which pen to use? I decided that it would be more appropriate for a business transaction to have the simplicity of the black and lustalroy (sp?) cap of the "51" instead of the large, garish yellow $33 pen. By which I mean no offense to the $33, I like large and garish!
Anywho, the pen just flowed across the paper, making signing my signature a dozen or more times a real pleasure. The conversation flowed easily with all the parties involved, and on the whole was an amiable and positive experience. After I left the office and was on my way to work, I looked hard at the "51" and realize that, by either pure coincidence or the behest of some cosmic force, this pen had become the pen I really started my adult life with.
When I got to the bank, one of my co-workers asked me how it all went, and then she asked, "Does your hand hurt?" I was able to smile and reply that no, my hand didn't hurt at all, because I did all my signing with my super smooth Parker "51"!
