I've just taken delivery of a bottle of Noodlers Antietam. I was very excited about this ink, in view of Nathan's comments that it was based on a reconstituted mid-19th century ink - but I am a bit surprised that it looks almost a dead ringer for my bottle of Private Reserve Orange Crush. Somehow I had expected stronger red tones in there, along with the orange element. But maybe this is how it is supposed to look. Can anyone else who owns both inks comment on this?

I don't have the ink in a bottle, but I received a snail recently which it was written with. I would say that it is a deep red-orange shade... looking to me a bit like Herbin's Orange Indien, but more vivid and less muddy. I don't think there is anything wrong with your ink - it does sound right from what I've seen of it.
Lots of folk have this ink, so someone more knowledgeable will chime in soon.

it looks quite different to me in different pens. sometimes when it's really wet it looks quite red, and other times it's more of an orange.

I don't have the Orange Crush but I really like the Antietam red.

To me, Antietam seems a rusty color; the orange predominates. It looks pretty much like KendallJ's scan in his review. In my Pilot Knight, it appeared brownish, while a heavily saturated cotton swab made marks that were more reddish. I now use it in a 1.35 mm calligraphy pen, and there it's, uh, orangey-brown with just a hint of red? A nice fall color. Someday, I'd like to compare it to Noodler's Tiannamen.
