I just bought some J. Herbin scented inks and I have been delighted by the lavander and the rose scents - they don't smell at all "perfumy" or artificial; rather they seem quite natural to my admittedly unsophisticated nose.
Both inks were tested using a Platinum 3776 with a BB nib for grins and giggles.
The colors are quite nice as well. The Rose is a deep red, not garish, brighter than blood, but definitely not the red your seventh grade teacher used to mark your French homework

It looks, well, rosey, like a petal from those beautiful bouquets at your local florist.
The scent? Magnificent! Authentic yet subtle. As I said, the rose scent does not seem perfumy or sickly sweet. In fact, if you closed your eyes, you might just think someone had placed a freshly-picked bloom right under your nose.
The rose scented ink is a real winner in my book!
The Blue is also a very nice color - not too purple (that's what their Violet is for), but more of a "true" blue (if there is such a thing). On my sample, the blue looked a little washed out and dried down a little dull, losing some of its vibrancy, but I think that may be due to the fact that the nib was not completely dry from cleaning when I dipped it.
The scent of the lavender is quite potent when in the bottle, but on the page, it virtually disappears and I could barely detect it, even when the paper was practically pressed against my nose. This could be due to the beginnings of a slight cold, but perhaps not - after all, I noticed the rose scent easily.
Both inks seemed to offer excellent shading characteristics that are commonly associated with J. Herbin inks.
Stay tuned for tests of the Orange/Amber and the Violet.
