Full Version: Are "51" nibs interchangable?

I have a few clunkers that I might combine to make one good pen. One is an older "51" with aerometric filler, but it has been dropped on the nib, really bent. Another pen is a Mark III late model with a broken barrel but a nice XF nib.

I am wondering if I can just take the nib out of the Mark III and put it into the older pen?

I never could get my Waterman flex-nibs to fit in my 51's.....

These are both Parker 51's, just different years.

Any Parker "51" nib will fit into any Parker "51", assuming that neither the nib nor the pen is damaged. The combination may require some adjustment, but it will work.

Hi,

Second that.

It will work.

Hi Guys:

Just curious: Does that mean even Demi nibs and 51 Special nibs can fit any 51s?

Hi,

Yes, Parker was good at standardizing, so they do fit.

Here's a photo showing
1. My bent nib.
2. A Med to Broad I bought on Flea Bay from England
3. The XF Mark III I have for parts

Yup. The difference in the demi is the external size. The nib, feed and collector should be the same. The 51 special nib is not gold (except in a few late models) but an alloy. The basic size and shape are the same.

Note that on a MK III the clutch ring and section are different, and so can not be swapped out easily with parts from earlier pens.

For the Vac-filling Demi, this is true. For the aerometric Demi (later called the Slender), the collector is not the same; it's smaller in diameter and shorter as well.
