Full Version: Skyline leakage

I have an Eversharp Skyline that I've been using for awhile. I noticed yesterday that I had an inkspot on my index finger after using it, but I figured I'd brushed the nib by accident.

Today, though, I used the pen and had ink on my fingers in several places. I took a look at it, and there's ink pooling in the section. Looked at from the side, the nib and feed fit into the section like this:

Ink is collecting in that space (where the slashes and pipe characters meet in the diagram). I was able to soak it up with a paper towel, but I'm wondering if there's a leak somewhere, or if ink is just welling up through the nib. Anyone experienced this problem before?

I typically get it when I'm filling piston-fill pens, or converter pens when drawing ink through the nib and feed.

I soak up the ink around the end of the section with a paper towel, but it's a pain. I've started taking the converters out of my pens that have them, it's much less messy. Just fill the convertor, stick it in the pen, push a little ink into the pen if it was dry, and I'm off and writing.

What you describe should not happen to the extent that it stains your fingers; that's why the Skyline's section is cut away there. There may be a small leak in your pen. To test it, fill the pen afresh. Shake it down over a waste basket to get most of the loose ink off, then swaddle the nib and feed in a paper towel for a couple of seconds. Then hold the pn vertically, nib downward, and watch with a fairly good magnifying glass to see if new ink builds up along the sides and in the interstices of the feed. If there's a tiny leak, ink will cointinue to build up -- this can take a minute, so be patient -- and will eventually pool out from under the tip of the feed to start a drop building on the underside of the nib. If your pen does this, it's time to have the leak dealt with.

Well, on further examination, the ink collecting at the section/feed juncture was a red herring. I took a closer look at it today, and the section is actually cracked. The crack runs from the nibward edge of the section straight back for about a quarter inch. *sigh* so much for using this as a backup pen.

Sorry to hear it's cracked. What color is your section? You might be able to find a replacemt fairly easily. Skylines are fairly common pens & it's a pretty basic operation to swap a nib & feed out. If you need a "how to" lesson drop me a line & i'll be glad to help out.

Thanks. I've actually got plans already to have this pen Binderized (flexy EF, just waiting on the necessary funds) so I'm hoping he'll have the necessary parts to replace the section.
