I bought this pen at Selfridge's in London, about 5 years ago. At the time I had no particular interest in pens - other than to write with - and I bought this as a change from my excellent Targa. Now that I know a bit more about these things, and collect them abit, I'm intrigued to know what model this pen may be.
I've trawled the Web for references - in particular Jim's fantastic archive / reference at PenHero - but cannot find anything like it.
Description follows:
Barrel - about 11 or 12 mm diameter. I think it's made of brass, with a sort of brown, "Thuya" laque finish. I say it's brass because the screw thread is almost definitely brass, so, judging by the weight of the barrell, am assuming the whole barrell is brass, albeit with the laque finish.
Cap - probably same construction as the barrel. Single, wide, gold-coloured band, marked simply "Sheaffer's" and, on the opposite side, "USA". Clip is of the Targa style - and this is the weird bit, because I can't find another Sheaffer (other than the Targa) with this style clip. There are no markings on the clip. White, 'Lifetime', dot at the head. Clip has two steps to a white, probably plastic, cap at the very top of the pen. Cap tapers slightly at the top: i.e., it's not a 'flat top'.
Section - moulded plastic. Single, thin, gold-coloured band. Two indented, opposed, ridges. These are, presumably, to allow a better grip when writing.
Nib - quite short, bi-metallic, gold-coloured and silver-coloured. No flex. Single imprint: "SheafferS" (note: NO apostrophe). Decorative scrolling on the silver-coloured bit. I'm under no illusions at all about this nib - it's quite probably steel or, perhaps, gold plated steel.
Pen is cartridge / converter fill.
Overall, this pen is really quite nice quality. It's heavy, sits well in the hand and writes very well indeed. But, it remains a mystery. If anyone can identify it, I'd be grateful!
Regards to all,
Nick
PS I tried to upload a picture, but don't know if the site will take it.
