Full Version: Can I tame my PR Avacado?

Does anyone have any ideas on how to bring my PR Avacado under control? I like the colour, because it's the deepest true green (no black or blue in it) that I can find, but it smears even when dry. I don't want to lighten the colour any, but would a bit of water in the mix do the trick? Maybe a few drops of Pelikan Black?

Or should I give up and try to find some Penman Emerald?

Do you have any other straightforward green inks? I'd try mixing it with a standard green FP ink (maybe let it sit a day or to to make sure nothing weird happens) rather than water, as I would think that would be less likely to significantly lighten it.

I just wrote 4 sentances in my Rhodia pad and again in my Clairefontaine pad. I let them dry long enough to test my daughter on her 20 spelling words and just checked them. Absolutely no smearing.
The pen is a nice damp writing Parker Vacumatic with a fine nib. I have used this ink in a bunch of different pens, virtually all with fine nibs, and have never had a smearing problem.
What kind of paper are you writing on and what kind of nib. Is it a very wet writing nib and broad or a wide medium, that might cause the ink to take longer to dry.
But once my lines are dry there is no smearing at all.

to my eye, Diamine Emerald is a light Avacado (which I would call a yellow-green, not a true green but that's just a personal perception) - maybe something like the Diamine ink would "dilute" without a color change. But you'd have to mix and try. What I would call a standard green (WM, Skrip, Diamine Woodland green) are all too blue and would probably make mud.

A little water may help and is perfectly acceptable to try. It's a very saturated ink so depending on how wet your pens write, it shouldn't alter the color much. Try a drop per fill, then two, etc. and see if you can come up with something that behaves more to your liking but still looks as rich.

The only problem with Penman Emerald is that once you fall in love with it, you're stuck because it's so hard to find (and absurdly expensive) and people like me that hoard it are not likely to sell it. smile.gif
