I have no interest in this company except that I use their books...

Users of this network might be interested in Alwych notebooks. I have used them for many years both for my Analecta; for writing out the texts of talks; for field notes when on archaeological expeditions and for Moleskine-type pocket books.

They are made in Glasgow (Scotland). Here is a link: Alwych

The paper is slightly (only slightly creamy) with a faint green feint line (sic).

As for ink-worthyness, they are A-/B+. It really depends on how wet a writer you pen is. Noodler's Red Black in a med VP sometimes makes a friendly little mark on the other side of the page. A fine old Parker with Visconti blue distains breaking on through to the other side.

Oh, look! Here's a Scottish smilie /:)

I've been interested in this brand of notebooks and have been meaning to order one to try out. They seem to have a good reputation amongst veteran travellers and archaeologist-types.

I found out about these books because they are the favorite notebook of Michael Palin (of Monty Python fame). He mentions using Alwych books in his travels quite often, they are made to withstand a considerable amount of weather and abuse.

I hadn't considered how fountain pen-friendly these notebooks might be, though.

Regards,
Conrad
