Full Version: Hard Rubber Dollar Pens

Since my obsession is with hard rubber pens, I was pleased when I found this BHR Dollar pen among some other Esterbrooks I was preparing for sale.

Is there any particular Renew Point nib that would not be "correct" with this pen? It came to me with a 2556 as shown. Just curious if all the various nibs were available at the time this one was made.

TIA,

Correct nibs during this period were 1xxx and 2xxx only, with very thin flat feeds. Your standard 2556, 2668 and 2968 should look identical to later full comb feed versions, but all 1xxx series should have Dura- Esterbrook Crome with Esterbrook at an angle on the nib in between Dura-Crome, with the number just at the base of the nib. Others, such as the 2460, show Esterbrook above Duracrome, then the number, then Made in USA at the base.

You're going to be limited to a small range of appropriate nibs here, mostly:

1314
1461
1550
1551
1554
1555
2048
2284
2442
2460
2464
2668
2968

Hope that helps-

Thanks for the help Brian. Do the hard rubber Dollar pens have any more value than the plastic ones?

Fits right in with the old Watermans with nickle trim.

Value, of course, is subjective. Personally,I find them very interesting because they have features the standard $1.00 plastic pens don't, namely the cap band placement, and the imprint. Also yours has the early spear type lever which is most common in this model.

I would put a slight premium on them if everything was original, nib, marked sac, good color (most are oxidized to some degree or another, I rarely see anything close to black), etc.

YMMV of course, and you've got to find a willing buyer. smile.gif

Now the pencils to match them are even cooler. smile.gif

Can anyone refer me to a complete list of pics for the Estie's, I'm ready for more wink.gif

Thanks.
