Hello All,
An item has just finished on ebay which generated a surprising amount of interest.
Would someone tell us which of the 3 pens are rarities and why?
Ebay Item number: 120033983930 3 FOUNTAIN PENS 2 ESTERBROOK - 1 WAHL
Thank you

I thought they went a bit high also.

How common is that green Esterbrook??

I have the other two pens in my collection, so they can't be the reason for the high final bid!

the green "ice" $1.50 pen does fall on the rare side of the fence, however, it is not worth anywhere near the final price. $200-225 is on the very high end for this particular model.
Looks like two people who thought they'd put in some outrageous bid to make sure they got it. I bet they're in for a heck of a surprise when they see the final price.

Of course, they could sell the other two and bring that down to around $500 for the green one.

Best-

Interesting. Sandy101rock (the winner) is an online dealer who specializes in Esterbrook, and I would think should have had a good idea of the value.
Well, perhaps even the 'experts' miss sometimes...
Regards,
Gerry
Edit: Just reread my post and saw where people might think I meant Brian had missed - no, my comment was intended to suggest that sandy101rock may have become too enthusiastic.

Wow. I thought the purse pens and "J" icicles were going for inflated prices, but this one blows my mind. I'm glad the expert (Brian, I learned everything I know from esterbrook.net) is just as confused.

Jimq-thanks for asking that question. I was watching the same auction, and I wanted to know the same thing-what was it about those three pens that caused the auction to end at such a high price.
I am just starting out with my Esterbrook collection, so I have a lot to learn, but that auction totally stumped me.
Brian, thanks for the answer. Also, I have been visiting your Esterbrook web site a lot. It's a great web site! It's wonderful to be able to find so much Esterbrook information, all in one place.

Thanks Annette, there will be more info going shortly as I'm working on updating the Safari pages this evening.

I would like to thank you for your explanation as well Brian.
I am a new Esterbrook fan as well and if they start habitually hitting $500+ I will have the world's smallest collection.
All the best.
