Today I received a letter from one of my non-fountain pen pen pals. She knows I love fountain pens so she told me the following story. The names are ficticious.
Jane loved her Esterbrook fountain pen and was heart-broken that she had lost it. She had looked everywhere, but after months of searching had finally given up. It was gone forever.
Jane's friend, Dorothy, was determined to talk Jane into dating a friend of hers named Jack. Jane repeatedly refused to even consider going out with him. For the umteenth time Dorothy said, "When are you going to go out with Jack?" Jane answered, "When I find my Esterbrook pen!" She was sure this was another way of saying "On a cold day in hell!"
A few days later Jane did indeed find her Esterbrook pen - and Dorothy was present when the wayward pen was discovered - so there was no getting out of having a date with Jack. Much to Jane's surprise, she and Jack hit it off, were married a year after their first date, and are still together - forty years later - thanks to a fountain pen!
