I think I boobed this morning.

I was rooting through a load of old pens this morning that a man was selling.
He wasn't a pen specialist.

I came across a large Sheaffer with a snorkel.I've never handled a pen
with snorkel before so I was fascinated. The condition wasn't perfect. The barrel
had a bit of wear and there were some scratches on the clip.
It was made in Australia and was either a black or a very dark green. It was also boxed with papers.I now know it's the PFM1 after having a look in FPOTW.
If he turns up next week should I jump on it?
Roughly whay would you pay, assuming it needs a service?

Hi Maxrhino,

In a one word answer, yes.

If you paid somewhere in the region of £20-25, considering that it will probably need a service which I would think would cost something around £15-20 to get it up and running properly,( a new sac and new seal rings, you might be able to check on how much and who would do it on line during the week), you might be onto a good thing. Of course it would be better if it cost you less and it doesn't need a service and a new sac.

I have seen them at silly money on e-bay (£80+ with box) but if it costs you £40-50 all in you could still turn a profit, although if the nib is good and suits your hand you might not want to part with it. The PFM that I had, until it went walkabout with the assistance of some light fingered SOB, was really very nice to write with and in the same league of smoothness as a 65, although it was a bit big for my hands I liked it for the feeling of solid engineering.

Hope he shows up next week and it is only a quid or two. biggrin.gif

Good luck, John
