I have to crow a little. My dear husband watched EBay last week while I was at the hospital with my father and stepmother. He had told me he would watch this item and try to get it. I've been outbid several times on EBay lately so I didn't get my hopes up. Then too, I thought my husband might forget all about this EBay vigil. To my delight, he managed to win this ink blotter and letter holder at a bargain price. I am now blotting in style! tongue.gif

Oh Wow! Nice!!!! wink.gif wink.gif wink.gif

Do you have a source for GOOD blotter paper? An excellent brand is "Verigood" carried on ebay and by Pendemonium

Very nice!
I love desk paraphenalia.
Does it come with any history?

Yes, I have some of Pendemonium's thirsty blotter paper. It's the best blotter paper I've ever used. When I got this blotter from the EBay seller, it would not rock properly because the curved piece of wood behind the scrolly decoration did not extend past the center of the scroll. At first my husband thought he would make a new wood piece, but the bolt that the knob screws onto is well attached to this piece of wood and we didn't want to risk damaging anything. So I got some self-stick poly foam [black], cut it the width of the blotter and long enough to wrap around under the marble, then put the cut-to-size blotter paper over that. The foam is thick enough to extend past the center scroll -- so now it rocks perfectly. tongue.gif

No, it didn't come with any information at all. I'd love to know its history. I have no idea if it's really old or a fairly recent reproduction. Apparently a previous owner had a problem getting it to rock properly and tried to solve the problem by putting a stack of paper behind the blotter paper. One of these filler papers had been cut from a magazine where there was part of an advertisement that had a drawing of a 1950-something car.

A rocking blotter is a handy little tool. I use mine all the time (although mine isn't as pretty as yours.) Enjoy your find!

Good Job.
Suggest you keep the husband. He seems handy to have around.

Forgot to say the price for both blotter and letter holder was $20.55 + $6.00 shipping.
