Didn't I just find my fantasy dark purple ink in their Purple Martin? Oy! This one looks pretty grand as well. Waiting for some reviews biggrin.gif

oooooh.

I really do dearly wish the LB site was a little better. Hard to navigate and to find the info one wants. (Which is too bad as there are some good things, like a fine rant--I presume written by Nathan T.--on the noble work of improving ink.)

Oh yes, that's very pretty. Thanks for the link, Kelly.

Hmm, a dark purple, but possibly not the Aubergine/eggplant i want ... unsure.gif

As good as it looks at first sight, in my experience, these dark purples and eggplants are tough on the eyes when reading . Somehow the colour contrast to the white page puts stress on my eyes when reading something in these colours blink.gif

Isn't Purple Martin rather red-ish/magenta-ish than blue-ish purple? At least mine is unsure.gif

Have you tried Noodler's Violet? That looks pretty good, too, from their swab page on the above link.

I have a sample vial (courtesy of the Pear Tree Pens vial trial ) of Purple Martin and it's a beautiful purple with darker/black undertones, just what I was looking for. I don't see anything magenta about the sample I have..maybe it's a batch issue?

I'm just looking forward to more sample swashes and reviews of Wampum and how it compares to the other Noodler's purple line smile.gif

How does the new Purple Wampum compare with Noodler's Iraqi Indigo?

Seems obvious, but have you tried De Atramentis Aubergine? If it's not dark enough for you, you might be able to add a trace of black or brown.

Iraqi Indigo is much lighter than what Wampum seems to look like (from the writing sample scan posted) and rather chalky or milky looking when it dries.

Yes, I bought the De Atramentis 'Aubergine' at a local shop and first thought 'this is it', but it feathers way too much and this was the ink where I discovered to my surprise, that dark Aubergine is not easy to read. Somehow the/my visual system doesn't favour this colour on white paper. Of course I can 'read' the text as such, but the feeling of strange contrast is present.

I also have J. Herbin Poussière de Lune and Caran D'Ache Storm. The first is nice but not really dark - untill you let it dry in a pen for weeks, then it becomes similar to 'Aubergine'. Storm is somewhat darker* and a first compromise for an elegant eggplant colour.

* a few months ago, when Caran D'Ache introduced the new ink line, I wrote as first impression somewhere in this forum, Storm is the same as J. Herbin Poussière de Lune in a different bottle, but now I agree with Michael Richter that these are different inks.

I have the same impression of reduced readability with red/orange and magenta inks. I absolutely love Noodler's Saguaro Wine, but it's not as comfortable for me to read what I've written with it. The burgundy/aubergine colors don't seem quite as bad to me, however. Maybe the visual systems of different (non-colorblind) people respond somewhat differently to color.

I agree, I.I. is a more classic purple. This stuff looks down right black, both on my monitor at home, and the one at work.

Hello!

So have any of you lucky people who have Noodler's in stock in their country ( although there are local rumours that Noodler's MAY be arriving in Australia at the end of the year..) tried purple wampum yet? Its sold out in a few stores online so someone must have tried it smile.gif

Its so hard to see from the scan, but I wonder if it is going to be almost black coloured in a fine nib? It does look yummy though drool.gif

looking forward to hearing more about this colour !

I do have it and it's pretty darn juicy! In a side by side comparison with Noodler's Purple Martin, which if I scan just doesn't do either ink justice, the Martin is darker but not by much. The Wampum has more red in it than Martin but if you were to see if by itself you would not say it's a reddish purple, if that makes sense. It's definitely a dark, rich purple, no doubt, but not as close to black as the Luxury Brand shows and as I've said a lighter than Martin - it dries well, too. After Martin, it's my favorite purple, and I would not want to be without a bottle drool.gif

Hope that helps smile.gif

aaargh - kelly, thanks for the reply but now I need this ink drool.gif wallbash.gif
I am after a rich purple ( which Wampum sounds like )... to compare - is it like PR Purple Mojo? Or the brightness of Waterman Purple? I don't really want an ink that dries paler - something saturated , i suppose, is what I am after. Purple martin has a lovely dusky look to it (pretty, but not what I am after ) - so i guess I am wondering if Wampum has a dusky look or a vibrant purple?

don't know if any of that makes any sense to anyone other than me  but if it does, I'd love to hear your thoughts smile.gif

and, of course, kelly, its definitely got to be your fault that I need this ink... roflmho.gif

Not bulletproof, right?

I haven't done a water test yet - thanks for the reminder! - but, no, it's not listed as a bulletproof.

I've been out of the FP loop all summer, and I noticed this and also the Concord Bream new color... and what with last Spring's European colors (half of which were magenta-ish), it makes me wonder... Nathan's exploring a lot of purple colors! I wish he did this more with rusts or reds or greens.
