I think you might be right on this one Ray. I was only able to find a clear M200 demo with gold trim. Of course, I did get it

I'll have to give a serious look at this M205.

Here is a photo of the gold trim demo that has been around for a while. Looking forward to the silver one. Sorry about the other pen. I don't have a picture of the demo by itself.

how big is the 205 demo? any data on this?
Richard

It's exactly the same size as an M200.
Here is a photograph showing sizes of the various Souverän and Tradition Pelikans, with a chart of measurements and weights below it.

the M200 from the souveran line? or from the tradition line? i heard that the M200 from the tradition line is the same size as the M400 from the souveran line.

There is no M200 from the Souverän line. M1
xx and M2
xx are Tradition pens. M3
xx and higher are Souverän pens. I'm an authorized Pelikan retailer. Did you look at the illustration and table I linked for you?

Hi,
These look interesting. I will be getting in an order of these from Chartpak in good time.
I am also a Pelikan retailer by the way.
Richard is a fine gentleman to buy from.

thanks, richard. i looked at the chart. i'm new to pelikans so i have a lot of questions.
as of the moment only fahrney's online store carries the 205 demonstrator, but they have to option to choose my country. (what gives?) andy's pens also does not carry it yet.
perhaps i should just purchase from you. however, i looked in your website last night but the 205 was not yet there among the pelikans.
please let me know how i can go about this.
thanks!

Hi Richard,
I have a question for you: On the comparison chart, I can see the Pelikans ranging from M150 to M1000. I have two Pelikan 140's. Where are those size-wise in that chart? I guess ~M150?
Another thing, do you know if the nib section is friction fit on the 140? Because mine came right off when I tried to untwist the nib. Inside, there are still threads, and some clear plastic ring over them...
Thanx,
Nenad

Hi there. I'm not Richard but...
The nibs are threaded as are 120 nibs. I had the same experience you had with my 120. I tried to remove the nib and the nib and feed came out only. After I'd used the pen for a while (meaning that ink stayed in it for a few weeks) I went to clean it out and the entire nib unit came out the way it is supposed to. (NOW I know why Rick thought I was insane with my questions about 120 nib configuration. ) I don't know if you can soak it to achieve the same thing but it's probably just a matter of dried ink that is making the threaded collar stick inside the section. I would hope that no one would have glued it in.
Don't have my 120 in front of me but it's basically about the same size as the 200. The section is slightly narrower than a 200 and capped it is slightly longer but uncapped and unposted it is slightly shorter. (the 120 is the steel-nib version of the 140)

KCat, thank you for answering my question. It was not directed for Richard, but I have mentioned him as a repair man (and since he already solved another non205 related issue), and also hijacked a thread a bit, since I have generated no interest in the Repair forum
The nib came out just fine. I just left the pen for 6-7 hours in glass of water, frequently filling and emptying it. I was too impatient earlier trying to remove the nib with the dried ink not yet loosened. It was soaking for 2 hours only...
edit:
I have just reread your answer. Also, this nib pulled out of the threaded collar, with no untwisting motion, like my other 140. Again, the thread ring is transparent. Maybe this is the way it should be???
Sorry guys for steering this thread off road a little... b.t.w. I really like the demonstrator 205, and I hope it will be inexpensive, despite the relativity of that word...

On Richard Binder's link, I see that the "tradition" line has nibs of a single color but the "Souveran" has two color nibs. I am guessing that the two color nibs are gold rather than steel.
Two questions:
First, am I correct in guessing that the "tradition" line has steel nibs, and
Second, what are the other differences between these lines?

No. The Tradition series includes the M250, which has a single-color 14K gold nib.

Souverän pens have fancier trim; they have double cap bands, metal cap crown rings, and metal trim rings at the end of the section. Current Tradition pens do not have these various extra metal bits, but pre-1997 Tradition pens did have double cap bands. (OTOH, those older Traditions lacked the metal band at the back of the barrel where it meets the piston knob, so the net effect, to misquote Samuel Johnson, is that what the pens gain at one end they lose at the other.

I've already made my order to Richard, money order is in the mail.
What a nice pen. I cannot wait to write with it, it's gonna take a while with canadian custom and all, but it's worth the wait.
I own an older Pelikan 200 in black with fine nib, it was my first serious fountain pen when I was about 15 years old. It's been an excellent writer ever since! I studied in a really strict boarding school and I hid my Pelikan in the locked drawer of my tiny room and would only write at night before going to bed. My daily pen was a cheap Parker FP or a Fisher Space pen.

I use Pendemonium for most of my pen purchases and they have this pen available on their website for $75.
http://www.pendemonium.com/They are my favorite people to work with for pen purchases. I bought the solid blue 205 that came with the pelikan pen holder from them in '04. I really like the size of the 205. Granted, my favorite size is the 400 and the 300, but the 205 is very nice and a demo to boot, how can you beat that.
I just ordered a 300 from them.

i like pendemonium, too! i was actually trying to order from richard binder, but at that time paypal was not yet available in the philippines. so i ordered from pendemonium. sam was very nice, and my M205 arrived in perfect condition.
now paypal is availabale in my country, i can order from richard. perhaps another demonstrator? and i have been thinking of trying out those italic nibs. will look them up first on google, and then go to the forums here.
