I got this fat Triumph lever filler on the bay. In the photo you can see with a blue TM snork and a pre-TM TouchDown Sentinel. It is wider than both of them. The price imprint is 1500.

First, can I assume it is a Oversize? Second, is it likely that a Sentinel had a 1500 price code? Could it be a Crest with a cap swap?
Third: original or swapped, the cap is in suboptimal condition. Is there any possible source for caps of this model?
Thanks on advance smile.gif

Your Sentinel is c1947, as it was introduced probably late 1946 early 1947 and because the cap does not have a White Dot, which was introduced on metal cap pens in March, 1948. Sheaffer put the dot on the end of the barrel, as they did not yet have a good method for mounting in on the metal cap. The 1500 marking is correct, as the pen sold for $15.00 in 1947 / 1948. The brushed stainless steel cap is only on the 1947 catalog model. The cap was changed to polished stainless steel in 1948.

All the 1946-1948 Sheaffers are being covered in detail in the Spring, Summer, and Winter PENNANTs, the publication of the Pen Collectors of America.

Jim,

I'm very interested in learning more about Sheaffers from '46-48, and you mentioned that there are articles in PENNANT magazine. I've never seen these for sale anywhere, are the articles available online? thanks!
