Full Version: Parker 75, couple of questions

Hi from Delaware, As I said in my brief introduction, i am starting with the questions for the experts here.
Many years ago I recieved a gift of a parker 75 sterling FP that was my first encounter with FPs. It was a great pen and when it went missing under circumstances I wont discuss here, I was disappointed to say the least. Well, now that the bug has bitten again, I replaced my 75 with an identical one off of e-bay. it looks great, writes great and I only have one small problem that I hope someone here can help with. I noticed that the cap does not fasten very securely onto the pen and upon closer examination, I found that where there are supposed to be 4 prongs on the inner cap there are only 3, one appears to have broken off. question #1 is can the inner cap be replaced with a new one, if so where can I get this done? Do I need to send the pen back to Parker?
Also, can the newer ink converters,(the twisty kind) be used in this pen? I have the one that you squeeze but just wondering for future reference.

I wouldn't advice you to send your pen back to Parker, as I doubt they still stock parts for the 75. But the fix is pretty easy and can be done by anyone with a decent parts supply. I would suggest the very reliable Richard Binder, who you can find at richardspens.com. Email him and ask him if he has this part (just describe it and he will know what you are talking about). You may also want to find out what his turn-around time right now--it could be more than a few weeks, as he is a popular repair person.

As for whether you can use the twisty piston converters, yes, you can use Parker's piston converters in place of the squeeze converters.

Hi Russ,
You have the cap problem already figured out. The inner cap is more than likely just fine, you just need a new clutch spring and with the proper tool is fairly easy to change. Parker has been out of these parts for years and no longer will perform this repair.
The newer twist converters work just fine in the older 75's. I can not stand to see a 75 not working properly, so if you live in the US and want to pay the postage both ways, I will put a new clutch spring in for you free of charge. Now, lets not have everyone jump on the band wagon here. This is a favor for a new member who enjoys 75's
