Hello,

I just ordered an Aurora Talentum fine nib and am wondering if anyone has experience using this FP. Do Aurora nibs run wider than usual? I'm wondering if I should exchange for an XF nib...

How have your experiences been writing with an Aurora Talentum?

Thanks!

I have a Talentum. Originally it had a fine nib, but when someone damaged it I sent it to Aurora's US service for a nib replacement. The service center didn't have another fine in stock at the time and asked if I would like a medium. I took the medium, and I haven't noticed very much of a difference between the two. In my expeience, Aurora nibs run finer than most. It's a beautiful pen and a flawless performer. Enjoy yours!

I have used a Talentum for over six years. Never a problem.

Have the fine nib and it is a good size. Writes well and is not too wet. A super pen.

Good luck with yours.

I think you should asked Laura (Phtalo), she bought Aurora Sole minima with an XF nib. Maybe, you can find the review and the sample she made.

My Talentum has been a part of my rotation on and off for the last 2 or 3 years. It's a workhorse! Never had a hint of a problem with it. I usually use a medium nib, but also bought an oblique fine for it. In my view, Aurora nibs generally run a tad on the thin side of their stated size. I have medium and broad nibs in other Aurora pens in my collection and they're all a touch on the thin side when compared to other European nib sizes. I have an italic nib in my Optima that's really not too wide for note taking!

Bottom line: It's really an excellent pen that I can always count on.

gm6618,

Congrats on your purchase and a nice one at that. It is true that Aurora nibs run
finer than some, mostly because compared to many manufactures who outsource
their nibs to companies like Bock, those nibs run wider than most. My Visconti,
Bexley and Pelikan pens all would have fine nibs if I could do it over again.
However, Aurora creates their nibs in house and I commend them for this. They
make a line of 15 different nibs from an Extra-Fine to Broad Oblique for Lefties. I
have found their nibs although some would say thinner than others are actually
dead on and what they should be. Aurora’s X-F, Fine, Medium and Broad nibs all a
have line thickness that I think more pen companies should compare themselves
to. It’s all in taste of course but I have been really turned on by Aurora nibs this
year and how they do things all in house.

So, you will be very happy with your purchase and I am not one to recommend a
nib size that is definitely something that you have to figure out because everyone’s
selection of a nib has different benefits for them. A Talentum with a fine nib is an
excellent starting point and you will not be disappointed. Keep in mind the nibs are
swappable with an 88 or Optima.

My xf Talentum is my daily user.

All I would add to what has been said is that the nibs are often toothy. So if you like the pen but find the Fine nib a bit noisy/scratchy on some papers, get the nib smoothed. The pen is very nice and worth having, IMO j

I have the problem with my Aurora Sole minima but only when I use MontBlanc ink blue-black and black, Parker Quinck black or Aurora black, the nib is very noisy when I write on ClaireFontaine notebooks. Only two inks flow like I wish, Waterman black and MontBlanc cookies and spices. Aurora black ink happen to be perfect with my music and stub nibs!!
