Good Evening FPNers!

I'd like to give a thank you to all who have shared their experiences with various fountain pens on this board. In the past few days I have made extensive use of the search engine, and wow, I've learned a lot about fountain pens!

I work in customer service / new accounts at a bank, so am constantly using pens, and have just grown very weary of cheap pens. If I'm going to be writing and filling out so many reports, documents, et cetera, I'd like it to be a pleasant experience.

I'm also a student at night, so again something pleasant to hold and pleasing to my eye would be a real treat to take notes with.

I think it could be a collecting hobby I could get into. I've just never written with a fountain pen before, but the innumerable "Help Me Choose My First Pen!" posts have led me to order a Hero 100 Stainless from a popular seller oft-mentioned around here (but of which no forumer around here has any financial interest to, other then being satisfied customers biggrin.gif ).

So I'll be giving that a shot, and if I enjoy it, then cool! We'll be seeing more of each other.

Again, a thank you! All of y'alls passion for quality writing instruments and the kindness you show people attempting to get into FPs has impressed me.

Hello and welcome to FPN

How far deep in the South are you. Farther South from me hits Cuba laugh.gif

I'd chime in with suggesting a Lamy Safari or Al Star. They are just all around nice pens, reasonably priced and a joy to write with.

Hi & Welcome,

I think you'll enjoy the Hero 100. I have a few and they are all sweet writers.

Next step is the one they were 'copied' from - the Parker "51". Have a look around & you should find a decent user at a very reasonable price. They are quite simply the best.
There are other hugely expensive, flash pens around but time & again the "51" comes out ahead.

Enjoy,

Welcome to FPN!

Don't rule out a Waterman Phileas - inexpensive and very smooth. Just keep in mind that a Phileas medium nib is almost broad and a Phileas fine nib is leaning toward medium.

The Heros are very good pens. My husband has one that he loves.

Hello and welcome aboard - also from the deep south (but on the eastern part) wink.gif

Thanks for the warm greeting.

Tyty, I'm from Mobile, AL, so any further south then me and you hit the Gulf of Mexico.

Rua, the Parker 51 was the pen that came up over and over and over again as I was scanning through these boards, and if I enjoy the experience of writing with a FP, I'll definitely check around here or eBay for one: for my first pen, however, I wanted to get some hands-on experience with a trusted retailer, so maybe I can learn what to look for in an FP before I start checking auctions.

Judybug, the Phileas was one that I looked at. I especially liked the FP starter kit you see at various stores, comes with ink, cartridges, instructions, etc. But the Hero 100, for the time being, was easier on the wallet, and I ordered some ink as well. What I'm sure will be hilarious is me attempting to fill the pen when I receive it... but I'm sure I can find some instructions around here. biggrin.gif

And southpaw, <3 NC.

Welcome. Never a lack of opinions when asked for at this site. Hang on when you ask for pen recommendations.

Just a few miles east of my location near NOLa. We've gone to Mobile for the travelling exhibits.

Welcome again.
