Playing with colors is so much fun, and since I got new samples from The Pear Tree Pen Co., I decided to do another ink test!

All colors were written with D. Leonardt & Co. EF Principal.

The black ink is Walker's Copperplate Ink.

I believe a flex-wet and a general-wet are two different things.. So interesting how colors look so different depending on:

-The nib. (Ink flow, tip, flex, etc.)
-The paper. (Color, finish, weight, etc.)
-Who writes it. (Pressure, style, sizing, control, etc.)

So many variables! No wonder why finding the right color is so hard!

P.S. Sorry for the bleeding, I need better white paper. I'm thinking of getting Mr. Richard Binder's plain tablet.. Any users?

Again your calligraphy is amazing and it does deserve better quality paper. I've used Binder pads and they are fine half-pages if that size suits you. If you want full-sized paper, my current favorite is HP Premium Choice Laser Jet #32. Let me know if you want a couple of sample sheets of either one.

Thanks again.
I always appreciate ink reviews. However,
for the reasons you mentioned, i never know exactly how much
i'll like an ink until after i try it. Another factor is how much
evaporation has occured in the pen.

Thank you for your kind comments.

I prefer smaller papers, so I think Mr. Binder's will be perfect. My Swan is due back from him in October, so maybe I'll just add it to my order.. (The orders just keep piling up!)

There are some great reviews of papers in the paper etc. forum--I've found some very nice things that a person can buy at Office Depot, of all places. My very favorite does remain Clairefontaine, though.

Oh, and if you ever make an instructional video on calligraphy, I will buy it. wink.gif

We have this at work! I'll have to try it out. If anyone wants some Mohawk 24lb sheets in softwhite eggshell, LMK because I swipe this from work also. (I consider it a side benefit in exchange for my slave labor).
Ana
And I want that instructional video too.

You flatter me too much! I still have a lot more room for improvement-- I practice everyday during class and after school. Taking long lecture notes sure help!

Is this the Mohawk paper? I'd really like to find a full-sized paper that isn't dead white.

Yeah, sign me up for the instructional video, too biggrin.gif

I know Richard's papers are really nice and super smooth, but if you want have something before your pen comes back from him, you might want to try Rhodia pads. I like No. 16 size (5.8 x 8.3) and it comes ruled, graph or blank. You can find it at Dick Blick art store and a book is $5.

the link you posted shows all sorts of paper. I THINK that it is Mohawk Superfine Eggshell Softwhite 24 lb, 8.5 x 11. However, mine has different packaging and it is not made from recycled paper.

Ana,

That website dumps the search results in an hour so it sent you to the main page instead of the link. blink.gif

Is this the paper you mentioned? I'd really like a soft white paper for some of my yellow based inks like Army Green.

Thanks.
Viseguy
Nifty comparison. Thanks for posting it!

As far as I can tell, that is it. The packaging is different and the package that I have makes no mention of recycling, so I assume that it is not made from recycled paper. The one I have does not appear to be eco-friendly. If you'd like, I have some squares of it from a run-in with Office Depot (don't ask - it's a long story) that I'd be happy to mail to you if you want a sample.

It's a nice soft neutral cream color, not too yellow. I love it.

I tried Army Green on a dark ivory paper tonight but the subtlety was lost. I am looking forward to adding a soft white to my choices.

Ana, I just might take you up on your offer but you mentioned Office Depot. Is it a paper they carry? There's one nearby. Please tell me the information on the package so I can see if it is carried locally. Thanks.
