OK, I am looking for a pen repair guy in Michigan, West Michigan preferred. I am a high school teacher and have decided to give restored FP/pencil sets to certain students at graduation for use at college. I am in my second year teaching, so I could be giving a few of them over the next thirty years or so. Therefore, I would like somone I could actually see and talk to. West Michigan preferred.
I have an Arnold lever set of my own which needs tuning ohmy.gif It is the set that got me through the University of Michigan.
I also have two boxes of Esterbrook NOS nibs (various numbers) I picked up a few years ago in Hamtramck when a little stationary shop closed if anyone is interested or if the guy in Michigan has a use for them to cement a frienship.
Thanks for reading. Thrilled by any responses.

If the Esterbrook nibs you refer to are the renew points that fit the Esterbrook J models, I'm very interested. If they are the dip pen nibs, I'm afraid I can't use them.

I'm no where near Michgan so I can't help you with your search for a repair guru but I can tell you that FP repairs by mail are reliable and efficient. There are several good repair gurus that are frequent posters on FPN. Binder, Dillo, and Dennis are 3 names that are right at the top of my list.

I think your plan to give FP's to graduating students is a great idea. I wish I had such a thoughtful teacher when I was in High School.

Good luck,

Andy

I would be very glad to help you.

Unfortunately, I don't know any repairmen in MI either. Hope one is found who can help you as your goal seems very worthwhile.

The Esterbrook nibs you spoke of are likely a good idea WRT the repair person, but if that doesn't work - I too am interested in them.

Regards,

Gerry

Of all the repairmen on the forums I think I'm probably the closest to you here in Central Missouri. FWIW I've got 10 plus years restoring pens and have made it my full time job. If you need references please feel free to post a request. If I'm lucky some of my customers will see this and chime in.

If you would like to chat some about your repairs feel free to PM me or give me a call sometime. My phone number is 573 638 7220. I'm home nearly 90% of the time chained to my workbench.

I too would recommend looking at some of the more distant repair people and working by mail, as I don't know of anyone in Michigan.

Other than Dennis in MO, Ron Zorn is in Syracuse NY, Fountain Pen Plus in MN and Pentiques is in Youngstown Ohio. That is probably as close as you are going to get.

Here is a fairly complete list of pen repair people, from the PenHero website.
