So, I know it's always a bad idea to post the cap on a Sheaffer Balance, but how about Vacs? I'd like a Vac Deb to carry in my shirt pocket, but I would definitely need to post the cap to write with it comfortably. Do vac cap lips tend to hold up better to posting that other pens with said problem? I'm not too worried about slight wear/mar from posting - mostly just cracks, hairlines and potential structure problems.

some of the early slender junior pens are pretty thin walled but most vacs seem to do okay with careful posting. I HAVE seen Vacs with caplip cracks, but less often than on the Balances.
Still, i tend not to post vintage pens. Come to think of it, i tend not to post modern pens either.

I tend to post all my Vacs (and virtually all my pens, in fact - I like the balance), and have had no problems so far. The Vacs all seem to post pretty well, and as yet I can't even detect any cap-related wear on the barrels.

I guess that the only one that I wouldn't post are the vertical lined vacs like the shadow wave and golden web vacs. The joint between the stripes can be the weak point. Most vacs have the horizontal stripes, so they're pretty strong. I don't remember repairing cap lip cracks in any of those, not to say that it doesn' t happen!
