The VP seems to one of the most popular pens among FPNers, so I'm just curious as to everyone's preferred color.
I've only ever had the Black/Blue carbonesques, and the blue is probably my favorite. I also really like the look of the chrome, and I'm thinking about that for my next VP (everyone should have two right?).

The Chrome was my most recent purchase and it is absolutely gorgeous. If you are looking for a classy pen that seems to fit in most situations, I would opt for the chrome! Then again, the black carbonesque is also quite versatile...so is the plain black...so is...

Raden!!

Yeah - I didn't include Raden because I figured
everyone would choose it and because it's significantly more expensive........oh but it's sweet

Raden's too "pimp".
Yellow!

I voted for the Blue Carbonesque because it was the color I chose for my first VP. I would chosen the Raden finish had that been in my price range. Mandarin Yellow ranks up there as a favorite too.

I love my VP! I have a large pen collection, but the VP is just so much fun to right with. If you are considering buying, do it!

I really don't care for the carbonesque finishes at all.. I chose chrome simply because it is the most understated of the currently available finishes. Quite sleek in my opinion. VP is my favorite pen that I've ever used!

Raden is too pimp but yellow isn't? That's a yolk! You have to see it in person--it's very subtle!

I believe there are green and red Carbonesque VPs available in the Japanese market, which you could purchase from Ujuku's pen shop. I don't know what the new Iced Blue LE will look like, but I suppose it could be a Carbonesque finnish as well.

Yellow, yellow, yellow! The only Vanishing Point I have is yellow! I love it! It is a real attention getter! And recently I bumped it up a notch by investing it with one of Richard Binders left-foot cursive italic nibs! Yum!

Thanks for the link. I think the yellow capless looks great. I don't understand the differences in the capless pens that causes the big variation in cost. Anyone understand the codes? Also, anyone have an idea what it costs to ship from Japan? I would hate to order one and have shipping add 25% to the cost. Thanks for the info.

The total cost for my Decimo, with shipping, was just $141.75, so I don't think the shipping is that high. The pen arrived very quickly (California) and was very well packaged.

Hi Heath.
One difference is that the Japanese pens have 18K nibs. Or at least, they *should* if they are from stock that would have been sold in Japan.
The other reason - good ol' economy and its workings because what we're buying (decimo, non-standard US colors) isn't distributed by an American distributor. So it's going to cost a bit more.

KCat,
I got a response on my question to the Ujuku website owner, and your are correct, most of the VP pens have 18kt nibs. The cheaper one (the yellow in question) has a "special alloy" nib. Stainless mayhaps? I know this is sacrilege, but I'm not all that interested in the gold and two tone nibs. I don't mind a stainless nib, I think they look better on some pens. I figure also that if I'm using Noodler's ink that basically has a neutral pH I don't need the special corrosion resistance of gold either. I will say that years ago (I'm smarter now, at least a little) I had an inexpensive Waterman that I left inked for an extended period of time with Waterman ink and the nib did corrode badly. My only issue is that I started out looking for a $30 - $40 pen (Pilot Knight, etc.), and now I'm getting all worked up over a pen that is going to cost around $90 when it's all said and done. That and I'm getting pretty close to what a Honey Pelikan would cost, although I think my wife would lock me up if I bought one of them now. She doesn't understand why I sold a pen I just ordered because I didn't like how it wrote.
Heath
I fogot and had to edit: KCat, how do the nibs on your Pelikans compare to those on your VP(s)?

The Pilot "Capless" (aka "Namiki Vanishing Point") Web page is here:
http://www.pilot.co.jp/products/pen/founta...less/index.html.
Here's the page for the Decimo:
http://www.pilot.co.jp/products/pen/founta...cimo/index.html.
Both pages are in Japanese; you can use translation software. Note that "Capless" pens range from 17,000 Yen (before tax) down to 10,000 Yen. The cheaper ones look to me roughly like what we have in the States, but I haven't done anything to confirm this. The "Decimo" pens, which have 18K nibs, are all 15,000 Yen (before tax).
The point is: make sure you know which "Capless" model you're buying. I recall--perhaps incorrectly!--seeing in Tokyo "Capless" pens for over 20,000 Yen... these might be something like the "Raden" pen you can buy in the US.

I have the Mustard Yellow and it came with an alloy nib. Some of the higher priced ones are the 18kt gold nibs. I bought mine from Ujuku Store and unfortunately the broadest nib he had was a medium so I made a quick call to Pam Braun and had her send me a 14kt broad nib.
I chose the Mustard yellow because the Mandarin Yellow are far and few between, so the mustard yellow was the next obvious choice. Also the price was pretty darn good for a color you cannot get here in the United States.
I had a blue Vanishing Point that I bought a few years ago. My wife used it once and never gave it back to me. She said I can buy a new one if she can keep the blue one. So that is what I did!!! Aint love great????

I finally bit the bullet and ordered a Deep Yellow (mustard) capless from Ujuku pen shop. It's on it's way now. I would do a review of it, but someone (forgot who) already did a really thorough one on the Deep Yellow from Ujuku, so I would hate to rehash something that has already been done so well. In fact it was that review that helped to convince me to order it. Now if I can just convince my wife to let me order some of the Japanese carbonesque equivlalents...

I've got the Decimo in the pearl white, and I love it. My wife has the standard Capless in chrome, and I prefer the white - it has a subtle pearly shimmer and depth to it. Shame the standard Capless doesn't come in white.

Hard to say! I started off with a blue w/rhodium and I like its understated simplicity. The carbonesque ones are very nice as well. I'd have to see the raden in person but it seems very pretty.
So in other words, I don't know. I like them all.
