Full Version: Ink Sample Exchange a.k.a "The KCat System"

Denis Richard
To get the vials we use for the ink exchange system, contact Dillo (Dillon).

Though vials will hold about 7 ml of ink, the user's nib will displace some--thus filling with about 5 ml for trading is recommended.

This is where you post your requests and offers for the "KCat system" of vial sample exchange. I propose a simple format such as :

"I have :
<list>
I am interested in :
<list>
Contact me by <e-mail/PM/etc...>."

Denis.

I've updated <span style='color:red'>(04-11-07)</span> - Red indicates an ink added as of this date.

Private Reserve: DC Blue, Black Magic Blue, <span style='color:red'>Ebony Green, Ebony Purple (short term availability)</span>
Herbin: Amber,
Diamine: Claret, Prussian Blue, Sepia, Umber, Woodland Green
Aurora: Black
Waterman: Violet (NOS - with that lovely camphor smell), Havana
Noodlers: Saguaro Wine, WP Black, FPN Brown, <span style='color:red'>Apache Sunset</span>

Here are the inks I'm interested in but if you have something else let that you might want to suggest, just let me know.

PR: Sonic Blue,
Diamine inks: Any but Prussian Blue, Indigo, Claret, Emerald, Umber or Woodland Green.

Also - since i'm actually saturated (NPI) with inks, I'm open to trading for paper samples such as a couple of sheets of Clairefontaine, Rhodia, etc. I'll trade for postage as well. That is, an unused US 60c stamp for a sample of ink. or two 37c. it's typically 60c to send one vial.

for future reference - NPI= No Pun Intended
Denis Richard

Noodler : Black
J.Herbin : Bleue Nuit

Ciao,
Dorothy

PS I almost forgot to tell you what I'm looking for! I'm always interested in Aurora blue or black and any shades of blue or blue-black. I avoid the blues that have any green in them, but turquoise is pretty.

Question #1 smile.gif : How do I get the viles ?( and did I miss the "rules" on how this works ? )

I have :

Parker Quink Blue
Parker Quink Azure ( not much left )
Parker Penman Sapphire ( very little left ) blue
Parker Penman Ebony black
Parker Penman Emerald green
Noodlers Shah's Rose ( dark vibrant pink)
Noodlers Black
Noodlers Cayenne ( orange with nice shading)
Noodlers Squeteague ( good dark green )
Private Reserve Copperburst ( old brown with nice shading, vibrant )

Private Reserve DC Supershow blue
Private Reserve Tanzanite ( purple but dries to much blueer)
Pelikan Violet ( nice purple)
Sheaffer Skrip Kings Gold ( yellow)
Dip pen walnut ink small chunks smile.gif

I'd like : anything I don't have , prefer Noodlers or PR.
Edit : I would also be interested in actual cartridges ( small international ) verses vials.

NOTE : I LIVE IN THE NETHERLANDS. ( postage probably is a bit higher ).

contact me via PM or at : corien@bennink.infofountainpen
Remove fountainpen to get a valid address

EDIT 2 : also happy to fill up empty vials sent to me with ink or polishing stuff ( Turtle wax/ Tryphon protection stuff, polishing stuff )
KCat
High Corien.

The vials are not available at this time. I have been getting a trickle of interest however in another round of these so I will probably end up buying some soon and offering them again. It will be at least 2 weeks. I could send you a couple to get you started if you like. Contact me backchannel and I'll give you more info.

I'll write up a new post on the topic soon and get a better idea of how many folks are interested. The problem being that buying them in quantities less than 250 is not possible. it was very difficult for me to find that small volume - other companies wanted to sell me 1000 of 'em. a) too expensive cool.gif not enough interest from folks for me to make up my cost or avoid filling my house with the darn things.

The only "rules" are to have fun and keep us posted about what you're interested in and what you have available for trade. I've had to update my list 3X already. smile.gif
KendallJ
My collection much smaller.

Noodlers: Midnight Blue, Black, Squetegue, Legal Lapiz, Anteitam, Navy, Iraqi Indigo, Firefly
PR: Sonic Blue
Omas: Black, Roma Blue
Pelikan: Violet*, Black, Blue-Black
Diamine: Turquoise
Herbin: Turquoise
Sailor: Blue
Platinum: Blue/Black

* bottles ultimately for sale if you like them.

Want: one of each of yours! cool.gif kidding

Noodler's: Tiananmen, Navajo Turquoise
Diamine: any of the blues
Herbin: any blues
PR: any blues except Midnight
Gerry
Oh, good - finally a post (Kendall's) who doesn't have more ink than most retailers tongue.gif

Now I feel it's safe to post my meager hoard as well (besides I just got the vials)..

What I have: - Revised May 10, 2006

Pelican: Brilliant Black, Royal Blue, Blue Black
Parker Quink: Blue, Black (temporarily out of the Blue)
Noodlers: Ottoman Azure, Turquoise, Firefly
Private Resesrve: Dakota Red
Sheaffer Skrip: Blue, Black
Waterman: Blue Black, Florida Blue, South Seas Blue, Purple, Red and Green

What I need: Anything else... I am partial to Blues, and on the search for the perfect blue. PR American Blue has been suggested as that.

And I gotta find my inner self (but I worry about being too flamboyant with lavenders etc...) so, perhaps a diversion into brown & copper tones, or some greens.

I tend to like saturated colours rather than pastels.

Cheers,

Gerry
Keith with a capital K
I know I don't look like a man who needs anything and although I run a shop, I really don't sell ink (yet).

Some of the inks I have listed exist in very small quantities so I could probably only accomodate a few requests at best and the same applies to the vintage inks as they are not easily replaceable.

I wouldn't even know what ink's I could possibly want. I'll have to read through the lists here.

Waterman:

South Seas blue (vintage)
Florida blue
Blue black
Black
Green
Havana brown
Washable blue (vintage)
Red

Sheaffer: All my Sheaffer ink is old stock.

Blue black (vintage) (I have quite a bit of this actually)
Blue (vintage)
Burgundy (vintage)
Black (vintage)
Lavender (vintage)
King's Gold (vintage)
Peacock Blue (vintage)
Brown (vintage)
Grey (vintage)
Red (vintage)

Parker:

Black
Blue black
Washable blue
Green (vintage)

Pelikan:

Brilliant Brown
Royal Blue
Violet
Green
Black
Turquoise
Blue Black

Penman Sapphire

Herbin Azure Blue

Noodlers Eternal brown

Noodler's Legal Lapis

Lamy Blue black

Cartier Royal Blue

Cheers!
Denis Richard
South Seas Blue is already vintage ? I am that old ? unsure.gif When did they stop making it ?
Keith with a capital K
Denis... the bottle of SS Blue I have has a .25 price tag and probably dates to the late 40's or early 50's.

Hence the "vintage" label.

Waterman still makes South Seas blue so no SSB fans have to panic.

Is it possible Keith was referring to NOS WM SSB - that which was made prior to 96 or whenever it was they took out the lovely "scent"?

Are we speaking of that strong "metallic" scent, or is it something else ?

Are we speaking of that strong "metallic" scent, or is it something else ?

I would have characterized it as a camphor smell. Definitely not a perfume or contaminant smell. But I suppose to some it might smell metallic. It was pretty much eliminated in the late 90s. not sure exactly when. Probably because of "hazardous" chemical laws or something.

I notice however that many new inks have similar smells (some of the Noodler's do) while for some time the more common inks (Quink, Skrip) didn't seem to have that character. For some of us, the smell of NOS WM ink is almost an addiction I think. blink.gif
Gerry
If I may make a guess, the particular odour WM was noted for may have been Phenol, an effective anti bacterial/fungal preservative.

Gerry
Keith with a capital K
I do believe you are correct Gerry... opening an old bottle of Waterman ink is right up there with the smell of fresh baked bread and apple pie.

Dillon
eric.zamir
To quote KCat, I'm really saturated with ink. Engorged. And I'm in Italy, so it's not always easy to trade, like at the pen club meetings in the US or Israel, or wherever. I would prefer to trade than to sell and buy, so here's what I have for trade, and what I am seeking:
Omas Vespucci Red - full, brand new in Vespucci box, with Vespucci label, etc. (125ml) - I would like to trade this for, say three new bottles of PR: Blue Suede, Fiesta Red & Avacado.
PR American Blue, Visconti Ultramarine (turquoise) - large, old fashioned "hourglass" bottle with base, Herbin Poussiere de Lune, and 85-90% full bottles of Visconti Green (smaller hourglass bottle) and Noodler Ottoman Azure. I can also offer Sheaffer Peacock Blue (NOS), Visconti Black (large, old style bottle) and Lapis (same).
I'm looking for Sheaffer Burgundy, Caran d'Ache Turquoise, Jansen Stahlblau (and the items listed above).

These new posts reminded me that I got some vials recently (thanks KCat) and meant to post a note here.

I have the following:

Private Reserve: DC Supershow 2004, American Blue, Lake Placid Blue, Midnight Blues
Noodlers: Black, Ottoman Rose, La Couleur Royal
Waterman Florida Blue
Aurora Blue
Swishmix Glacier Blue
Lamy Blue Black (I found this ink very dry so it has a bit of soap added to it and now maybe it's too wet, but the color didn't change).

I've added a few new inks:
Yard-o-led Blue (according to Pendemonium this is the same as Diamine Royal Blue)
Swisher Emerald and Antigua Blue
Sheaffer Blue
Parker Quink Blue

I have a Miquelrius and Clairfontaine sprial notebooks, a small Rhodia pad and Southworth Fine Business 100% Cotton paper that I could send paper samples instead of ink.

I'm mostly looking to try Blue-Blacks, I'd like to find a good green and I always want to try any blue I haven't tried before. I'd like to try any of the Noodlers waterproof inks besides black.

In particular, I'd like to try Noodlers Blue, Ottoman Azure, Midnight Blue, Waterman Blue-black, Private Reserve Black Magic Blue, Sonic Blue, Spearmint, Sherwood Green, Emerald Green and anything else anyone finds particularly noteworthy.
