My Townsend nib is a fine and it looks to me like the tipping was added then in order to make it a fine, two large swaths of material were taken off each side with minimal smoothing after. It's virtually an "Arabic" writing nib in this configuration only that isn't what I wanted. Certainly not with this amount of tooth. I've been trying to adjust to it but having trouble. But this is a gift from hubby and is engraved and I do otherwise like the pen. Does this nib config create any problems with having it smoothed? I basically would like it to have just a standard rounded nib and would like to send it to someone who doesn't have a 4-month backlog.

I don't mind working on my own nibs - except 18K nibs. I figure if I muck up an 18K nib, it's alot pricier to replace. tongue.gif

I have a Pelikan M60X EF (unusually fine line for a Pelikan which is why I have not sent it in for exchange) that has the same cheap and dirty side grinds. I finally got the thing up to mediocre, as long as I use Noodlers lubricating Eel Blue ink, and if I write with a unusually light, for me, hand.

Cross is pretty good about fixing their mess ups, and have been very good about honoring their guarantees. Have you considered sending it to them for "adjusment?"

wel....

i have. but just don't wanna hurt hubby's feelings. if it's in the name of "getting a specialty nib" then he won't know. if it's "getting a decent nib" then... he spent a lot (too much) on it and a lot of thought went into the choice. he just couldn't know how to test a nib or judge one that came in the mail.

Hi,

Send it in and we will fix it it up for you for free possibly, just so that no one gets hurt.
