I just received from an italian Ebayer, a MontBlanc Meisterstuk with "Iridium point - Germany"... I'm not a MontBlanc expert but I think it's a fake unless a FPN user confirms it really exists!

By the way, it's really a nice imitation (body, cap and weight are impressive) , too bad it has this nib...

Iridium Point Germany nibs are generally (although not always) knock-offs made in China. Especially on a MontBlanc. Sorry. This is most likely a fake. I saw many of these in Thailand when I was there. Most likely, the nib will not write well at all.

The MontBlanc Meisterstruk nibs are unique I belive with the 4810 engraved on them.

i was suspicious to see "Made in Germany" on my Sheaffer Viewpoint Italics nib <_<

is this a cheap knock off from China?
Dillo
Hi,

The Montblanc is a fake while the viewpoint is a product of outsourcing.

Well, I have a Boheme MontBlanc and it has 4810 18k nib, that's why I was suspicious when I received this meisterstuck this morning. Well I got it for very cheap so I'm not really disgusted. Dillon, when you say "while the viewpoint is a product of outsourcing", does that mean body and cap are maybe genuine except for the nib?
KendallJ
The MB Made in China would be a great practice nib. You could probably get it smoothed out, and make a respectable pen of it.

it IS a genuine Sheaffer - i'm not questioning that.

But i thought Sheaffers were usually made in USA *shrugs*

Nevertheless, i found the explanation on Penhero:

QUOTE
After three decades of service, Sheaffer simplified the NoNonsense line, introducing a new and longer soft grip section, which resulted in the elimination of the section and cap threads, making the pen a snap off cap design. The line has been paired back to four models: NoNonsense, Viewpoint, Jellies, and Tagalong. The only current model that is still a fountain pen is the Viewpoint, sold in Calligraphy sets with German made nibs.

Well, this was my answer to KendallJ and Dillon smile.gif

You got a little misunderstanding kissing. I did not suspect your sheaffer at all.

I was suspecting myself (until i read that thing on penhero.com) wink.gif

I think it is so a fake, sorry about that. I had purchased a knock-off mont blanc fountain pen in person for someone and that was exactly what was written on that nib. If you paid more than $25 for that pen, I say you should ask that ebayer for your money back.

Though aside from the nib, it does look very much like a real mont blanc to me. You can definitely fool someone.

I got it for about 35$, I think it's a little my fault for not having enough doubts at this moment. I'll let it pass, it's not really big deal. If you look at the pictures I got and even when I got it in my hands, you'll believe it's the real one if you remove the cap.

Does anyone know if I can find a replacement nib? Not necessarily a MontBlanc but not an Iridium-Germany because I'm totally allergic to those nibs!

Well, I'll play with Platinum pens I got from Kevin to forget this little misadventure tongue.gif

Not anymore. Sheaffers are now made wherever is cheapest for them to get the work done.

Yes, what exists today as the Sheaffer Corporation does outsource. I am an old guy who is still mourning the loss of Sheaffer as an American company. In the recent Fahrney's catalog, page 3, they describe the new Sheaffer "Valor" as "... German-designed and Italian-made ..." I stopped reading, and I will probably not buy one of the Valors since I do not consider it a "real" Sheaffer. Yeah, I know, I am an ignorant lout. But there are too many real German and Italian pens available to have any desire for an outsourced pen.

Okay, I'm done. Thanks for listening.

Well, nibs marked "Iridium Point Germany" *can* be very good. I guess there are several makers -- you could hardly sue someone for infringing that trademark wink.gif

If you really wanted to get at the vendor, you could just inform Montblanc about them. They seem like the sort of company that would go after sellers of fakes.

Best

who has a quartz watch marked "Rolex" which is a crude enough fake not to be dangerous, but which is also a good time-keeper
