I have recently purchased a Churchill Black Ebonite with silver fittings- The pen came in a full presentation box s/n 092/300. I cannot seem to trace this pen, with silver, on any website. I paid £300 for the pen does that seem about right? Also is the Ebonite finish durable compared to other barrel materials and finally can anyone tell me how I can activate the free nib exchange service offered as I would prefer to exchange the medium nib supplied as standard with a medium italic

regards

Does your pen look something like this:

It is a Bespoke model. this one has chased ebonite. Handsome looking pen. I don't know what pens like this in UK retails for, perhaps a UK based dealer can help you with that. If you are in UK, you probably can contact them directly for nib exchange.

Yes it looks just like that-the dealer said that the metal work was silver but it is not hall marked what do you think?

Thank you for your reply- Regards Kenneth

Kenneth,

It is all silver and will oxidize like silver, which polish right off with a polishing cloth.

You have, for me, perhaps the ultimate pen. If I was to buy an expensive new pen it would be this. *sigh*.

I understand the fittings to be solid silver, though I too was disappointed that they are not hallmarked. I can confirm the tarnishing, though silver plating will do so similarly.

The BCHR should be perfectly long lasting, there are many pens from almost 100 years ago still in perfect condition, although after a large number of years hard rubber oxidises and goes brown. Not necessarily a terrible thing, but if you want black you want black. You wont need to worry for a long long time though!

£300 is a good price, they 'ebonite' finishes are more expensive than the acrylics, especially as your is so unusual with the silver furniture.

Contact CS (by email is easy) and they will instruct you how to swap the nib.

Enjoy your wonderful pen, I hope you are able to use it unendingly.

I would love one of those!

I just missed one for sale once and have not seen one for sale since...

I'm not a fan of gold (even if real) and would LOVE that pen.

You are very lucky!

I notice that a jewellers in Leeds called Owen & Robinsons have one in stock. They tell me that they have had it in for a while and would be prepared to do a good deal. Worth a go

I decided I would change my pen whilst I was having a nib exchange so I went for the model on the right of the two pens pictured left. It is a CS Jarvis LE in storm with gold fittings. The pen is heavier than the ebonite pen and is brass lined so it had to be fitted with cartridge convertor. I was able to get the italic nib I prefered.

Just a thorght, the factory now have an ebonite Churchill in stck now, maybe they might do a deal. I delt with Jemma Mitchell in Plymouth, she was very helpful

Hi there,

Jemma Mitchell can be contacted by email at: jemmamitchell@conwaystewart.co.uk

We are in the process of updating our website and it should be finished soon. The List Price for this Churchill is $680 or GBP 388. The Black Chased Churchill with silver trim is very nice indeed.

I had the opportunity to work with Kevin Cheng in producing an exclusive model 100 in black chased ebonite with silver trim. The pen looked a treat and it was a joy to see the project come to completion.

We are in the process of putting together an image bank for our pens. If you have the time, please click on the link below. In addition to the regular models and limited editions we now have our brochure available to view on-line.
