To all the citizens of New York City out there, do any of you know a place in NYC where I can get my pen flexed? Does the Fountain Pen Hospital do nib modifications?
I really want to get my pen flexed, but I dont want to go through the hassle of sending it via mail and deal with all the insurance issues.

IMHO, if you want this work done properly, send it to Richard.. but be prepared to have the pen out of service for a couple of months...
Or if you can make it to a major show that Richard is at, see him there... I know he does nib modification at the show for customers... I am not sure about flexing a nib though...
The closest major show to NY is the DC Show in August, I believe.

Thanks for your reply! I can not even imagine parting with my pen for a couple of months.... DC is a little bit too far for me travel for the Pen show, although I really want to go. Is there really no place I can flex my nib in NYC?

I need to get some tines aligned on a Parker 45 I got on eBay. I have a snorkel that needs repair as well and I was wondering if it would just be easier/quicker to do it at Fountain Pen Hospital. Does anyone know if their prices are comparable to what people do online minus the shipping costs? And what's their turnaround? It would be great if I can just drop these off on my way to work one morning.

Not knowing what nib is on your Parker 45, it might be cheaper just to buy a new nib from Parker... they still carry the steel and gold nibs in stock....
I bought a gold nib from them a couple of months ago and it was very reasonable..
I would think that having a nibmeister do the work, might cost more...
Just my opinion...
But you can call Parker Customer Service for a nib price at

Is it easy to replace the nibs on a 45?
(remember I don't do repairs/have no tools/etc.)

Unscrew the nib assembly from the section and screw in the new one... could not be simpler..

is there a thread somewhere with instructions? I though it was hard to get that hooded section off the nib?
EDIT: Called Parker and they're sending me a box for the pen and I'll mail it in and have them replace the nib for me. The nib is gold and I was surprised it was not that expensive to replace.
Now I need to get my snorkel serviced

I could be wrong, but I think the only person actually adding flex to nibs currently is Richard. I have my Pelikan 320 on vacation with him now. I'm sure it's going to be worth the wait.
I'm also fairly certain that he would not add flex to a nib at a show. However, he will give your pen a free ride back with him (saving postage)
DC too far for a pen show?! If you've ever been to one, you'd see that it's not too far from NYC. I highly recommend it.

As long as you don't need major nib work on your Snorkel, talk to Old Griz (Tom) about repair and restoration. He has done several of them, and has a box full of parts.
