Full Version: Pilot Capless Ink capacity

Hi,

The ink capacity of my Pilot Capless Decimo was 1 ML. It is also worthy to note that I was using the con-20 converter that came with my pen. (Not the con-50 that comes with most Pilots here in the US) That is actually quite a bit of ink--about the ink capacity of an M300, M800, and M1000,

Just filling that con-50 converter is a pain already, and the con-20s are so much cheaper! $5 to $1.60 who can beat that? The con-50 will not fill completely even with the other Pilots in my collection, so it is not a problem limited to the VP or capless.

I don't know anything about the con-20 converters... where do you get them? Do they work with old-style VPs too? Do they have greater ink capacity than the old-style squeeze converters?

Any chance of a description of the different converters - or better yet, a description AND a photo? Might want a few for my VP nibs.

Hi,

Have a look here: http://ujuku.jpn.ph/KAIMONO/penframe.htm

The Con-20 has a pressbar and the Con-50 has a piston. The older Capless pens work better with con-20 converters and came with them originally I suppose. The con-20 converter has been in production for quite while. smile.gif

That explains why my older VP seems to write for a looooong time on one fill (that and the fine nib). I wonder why they claim that the converter only holds .5ml, though.

The pen shop that sold me my first ever VP (the excellent Appointments in Cincinnati) suggested I switch to the press bar (con 20?) convertor when I grumbled to them about the piston (con 50?) model, and gave me a couple when I acquired my second VP from them. The press bar is certainly much better, though I still find the VP works best with cartridges.

I recently tried filling one of the cartridges with an eyedropper. I have been mostly pleased with the results, though I did over fill it a bit and had some trouble with leakage, a mistake I do not mean to replicate!

Any idea where to snag a few of these CON-20 converters here in the USA?

Hi,

I think Bertram's inkwell has them, but I am not sure.
