I do not own any Pelikans, but it seems like most of you love your Pelikans. I am debating putting a new Pelikan M215 fp on my birthday list. I love the new black and silver design.

Any thoughts on this pen? How does it compare to other Pelikans?

Thanks for your help.

I think that's a splendid looking pen. Ultimately, if you're into the 200 series size, I would just get the one that's most asthetically pleasing to you. You'll probably end up with multiple nibs for this pen wink.gif , but, at least in my humble opinion, choosing a Pelikan is more about 1. getting the size that's right for you, 2. getting one of the good nibs (they have some serious QC issues in my opinion, though their good nibs, both steel and gold, are super), 3. getting the style you like most. Good luck with whatever you decide.

I have the 215 in blue pinstripe and it rules! I bought it from Richard Binder who kindly ground the sweetest 0.6mm stub for it, too. It always writes the first time - never a starting problem or a skip. I like the slightly added weight to it from the metal barrel. It's heavier than the normal 200 series (and I prefer the slight heft) but the length fits perfectly in my hand. I'm sure I'll end up getting the black one as well - they're just great pens. I hope you enjoy it if you decide to get one smile.gif

I have the blue pinstripe 215 with a fine nib. It was my first Pelikan and it will NOT be my last. I also have a 200 old style grey swirl and a 100. I love the 215 although the fine nib can be a bit toothy compared to the medium on my 200. I am considering getting an additional stub nib for my 215.
I haven't used any pen in my collection as often as I use the Pelikans.

I was initially worried about the size but it works great for me. The weight (or lack there of) was a concern but has proven to be a non issue. I am going to start saving for a 1000. So no more pens for awhile.

I've got both the pinstripe blue and the black with rings. I too have some custom Binder nibs to go with them.

They are very nice, workhorse pens. They are a good size and weight to use often, carry in a pocket or accompany a small notebook. They are dressy enough to use in the boardroom and still not too fancy.

As others have said, they work right every time, the first time, and they hold a reasonable amount of ink.

Yes -- pick the one that appeals the most to you for its looks and the rest will follow.

I have to agree with everything said above... it is a fantastic pen..
I will make one recommendation... I would purchase the pen from Richard, if for only one reason. He checks out the nib on each pen he sells so that it is writing perfectly. You are not going to get that kind of service anywhere else....
The difference in price between Richard and most of the other sellers in slight, especially when you consider his nib check.
