Hi Folks,

Noodler's Gruene Cactus is neither a light green or a dark green. It's a bright, mid-spectrum shade. I'd call it a kelly green, but different people have different concepts of color names. The scan is close, but not perfect. The lightest variations here are a little lighter than the written sample and the darkest areas shown are showing a wee bit darker.

IIRC, this ink didn't rapidly turn darker in pens. As I mentioned above, I can't use it on many of the papers I'd like to, due to smearing it with my left hand, so I haven't had it loaded for any length of time for quite some time & can't say for sure if it is 2 weeks, for example, before it before it turns darker in pens...But I can say that my notes don't indicate that this was a problem.

For my own use, I've made a half n' half mix of Pelikan 4001 Green & Herbin Vert Pre with a tad of Sheaffer yellow to closely replicate the color. But for folks that don't have a left hand smearing problem I think this pretty ink deserves the review. smile.gif Enjoy!

Ann, excellent review. I find your color to be very close - just as you said. This is my favorite green, although I don't use green ink much at all. Thanks for the wonderful review.

Nice review Ann. I've got the Noodler's Forrest Green that I like but could also use a bit lighter shade like this.

Thanks for the review Ann
That is a nice color of green

Ann,

I have to say, your handwriting is so beautiful it hurts.smile.gif9 All inks look nice in your hand. My only Noodler's is Eternal Brown. It lasts about 10 days in my M200, and I fear that 3oz bottle may last forever.

I still haven't warmed up to the color, but it flows nicely and is of course 100% waterproof.

I bet even Eternal Brown would look lovely in your hand.

Thanks for the review,
Greg

Thanks, Anne, for another gorgeous review smile.gif9 .
The picture, on my monitor, comes out extremely close to the color I get from this ink.
I like this color, too. It's in my rotation for marking students' essays.

Thanks, everyone, for the kind comments. Glad that there are others that like my favorite Noodler's color!

Greg, since I like Eternal Brown, if you want to trade it for a different Noodler's waterproof ink, PM me--maybe we can work out something. smile.gif

Green is a great color for copyediting & marking up papers--it avoids the dreaded "sea of red ink" thing that many people apparently find traumatizing, and it's easy to see and read.

Thanks for this review--I've been eyeing GC for some time.

Thank you for the review. This really does look like a nice green to use when grading the work of my 8th grade students.

I don't know why so many people find red ink tramautizing, but even as a student,I quite didn't mind seeing red ink on marked paper. Or was I conditioned?

For a some passionate discussion about the color of teachers' markup ink, see this topic thread from a few months ago in "Chatter." If anyone wishes to continue it tongue.gif , please continue it there and not here. My practice now is to use the same color for both corrections and praise. I rotate between red, purple/violet, magenta, green and turquoise.

Back to Noodler's Gruene Cactus: I've been using Noodler's Green for a couple of days, and now I'm rotating to Gruene Cactus smile.gif .

I think I will have to order some of this green, I quite like the red also. What is it?

Yes, Ann, which red did you use in that review?
Ann Finley
Sorry Jack & Steve...Haven't been keeping up with FPN very well lately--too much gardening right now!

The red ink is Waterman's Red.

As an aside, though Waterman's Red is still my favorite shade, I recently received samples of Sheaffer's Slovenian Red and Noodler's (waterproof) Devil Red. Both are very nice bright reds, too, and just a tad darker than the Waterman's.

Great review! Thanks for such an excellent writing sample.

Still early to be thinking of Christmas but worth setting in the back of your mind. Between Thanksgiving and Christmas, I switch to green ink for most of my writing. There's a good chance it will be Greune Cactus this year.
