Hi all,
Can anybody tell me how much this pen weighs? Does it have a plastic or brass piston?
Thanks

May I ask what difference it makes what the piston is made out of?

Alejandro has one, so he could tell you, but he may not have seen your post, yet. Try PMing him.

Try KCkc and TimButterfield as well.
There was a thread on this pen not too long ago:

Well, if I am buying a 300$ pen, it would make me feel better if it contained as little plastic as possible! I'd also be curious because I think this would affect the weight/balance of the pen.

I see your point but several well respected members of this board own the pen and love it. That was enough reference for me and mine was shipped out yesterday. If you like, I can tell you what I think of it when it arrives.

Sure! That would be great. However, the list of pens which would satisfy my minimum specifications keeps shrinking, and I think that the omas society pen might be close to a perfect pen for me. So, I probably will buy it eventually, once I save up the money :-) Hope they don't sell all 700 in the next month or two!

Hi Folks,
I admit it, I have been too busy lately, so I could not reply to this thread. I received a PM that brought me back to FPN, so here goes a piece of info about the gorgeous Omas Society Pen (mostly from the Omas site):
- Material: 925‰ sterling Silver with horizontal Guilloche, Blue vegetal cotton resin, 925‰ Sterling Silver finishing
- Length: Closed pen: 137,40 mm
- Maximum diameter: ø 15,40 mm
- Clip: Silver plated phosphorous bronze
- Fountain pen: Nib: 18K rhodium-plated gold with the Omas institutional image carved on.
- Available nibs: EF – F – M – B
- Refilling system: Piston filled
- Loading capacity: 1,75 ml
- Fountain pen feeder: Model in ebonite ø 6,5mm with 2 capillaries
- Packaging: Institutional Omas packaging
The packaging is also a masterpiece!
Regarding the weight, I do not have a scale. It is noticeable heavier than the resin Ogiva, than the Ogiva Vision and than the celluloid Paragon, but not too heavy. It is much lighter than, for instance, the Visconti Pericle.
It is a beautiful pen!

Write the review after several days of use. After the glow of the new acquisition wears off a bit, a more objective view will be disclosed.

Good Idea Roger!!! I have had several pens that have arrived and looked so fantastic that I didnt fully test it out. I would use it in spurts rather than sitting down and writing with it for 2 week straight. When I sat down and used it after several refills, there have been times where the pen writes fantastic for a paragraph or 2 then the feed would starve out and the pen would skip. This has happened on a number of occasions.
So in the past 1 1/2 year to 2 years, I made sure that I fully test the Pen with a minimum of 2 weeks and 3 to 5 refills of ink. This really gives me the feel of how well the pen writes and a more accurate review.

As you wish, I shall review the pen after I use it for a few days but if you will, allow me to express how I feel today after having received it this afternoon:
Today, there were no students in school. We were there and as such, we were "allowed" an hour for lunch (as opposed to our usual 40 or so minutes). I took this opportunity to drive to the post office (halfway across town) because I just knew the Omas was awaiting my arrival.
I entered the post office with trepidation. What would happen if that familiar pink slip was missing from the post office box? How would I feel, returning to school penless? (The two Lamy Safaris in my bag didn't much count at this point). I approached the box, brandishing my key with a shaking hand. The door of the box opened with ease to reveal a ton of junk mail, bills bills and more bills and not one but TWO pink slips. One slip tendered to the stern clerk behind tons of bulletproof plastic yielded a cache of Victoria's Secret goodies including the new bikini I just ordered...small stuff compared to the other slip which was quickly exchanged for a large lightweight package.
I collected my mail, undies and large lightweight package and made for the parking lot.
Once securely inside my car I reached for the Swiss Army knife I carry on my keychain and hacked the box to shreds. There, nestled in tons of those plastic blowup bag type things was the Omas box!
Since I didn't have time to start playing with ink, in the front seat of my car no less, I just opened the box, sighed in delight and raced back to school.
Fast forward to now. I just inked the pen with DC supershow blue that I picked up in Fahrney's when I was there last week. I wrote the first words with this pen in a Moleskine sketch book that I purchased in Barnes and Noble precisely for this occasion and I must say I am impressed. The pen has more weight than the other Omas I have...the famous one that I lost in my closet in school overnight several weeks ago, causing me to age endlessly in an instant. It is smaller than the first one..sort of like a skinnier cigar while the other one is wider in my hand. The silver one has much more heft to it and is a smooth and wonderful writer.
I have in the high 200s of 700 pens manufactured so I would imagine that they are, at this point, halfway through their inventory. I will continue to sketch and write with this pen to see if I can experience some dissatisfaction but I can tell you now that I don't think that will happen.
I think it's great that there are people who can make things that we can delight in. It's so nice to be happy about things when it is so easy to be sad about so much.
I am delighted with this purchase.
More to follow.

Congratulations!
It is a marvelous pen (though I have to admit mine is still uninked, still waiting for that
perfect occasion.
Regarding the number, mine is 330/700. I bought it directly from Italy, so I think they are not sold in the sequence.
Enjoy your pen!

Thank you Alejandro! I used the pen all of last night to write a long letter and to just doodle while watching Combat - a show that was on a million years ago and is now on CD. The pen writes effortlessly and does not skip at all. I followed the filling instructions faithfully and really enjoy using this pen. It is a gorgeous and happy pen!

The pen is still writing and I have been looking at the two books that came with it in the package. I do not seem to find any warning about not posting this pen. I know that somoene specifically warned against this but I can't seem to find a specific warning from the manufacturer. Am I missing something?

I know that on the Omas Society site where the pen is described and the order form is listed, they say that the cap is designed not to fit on top of the pen and ask that you not try to post it. But thats all I know!
How is the balance? Is it top heavy since it has the resin section but silver body?

The pen is perfectly balanced and beautiful. Even my husband who is not into this pen world at all, cannot resist picking up the pen every time he passes it and scribbling with it. He always mumbles something about what a nice writer it is and all sorts of admiring phrases. So there you have it. Believe me, if I saw something wrong with this pen, I would not hesitate to say I had erred but quite frankly, this pen has only encouraged me to spend spend spend more......
