Polyhistor
I hadnīt even seen this forum section until now blush.gif so Iīll introduce myself now.

After using fountain pens for years during my time in school I got into them again about two years ago, when my use of ballpoint pens had turned my handwriting into a gigantic mess.
Since then it has - at least I hope so! - improved quite a bit and Iīve developed a little obsession for nice writing instruments.

Being a college student (art history) I canīt spend lots of money on new pens (got me a Pelikan M200 F not too long ago and just love it, so thereīs no real need at the moment anyway), but learning about whatīs out there is fun as well and this place is such a huge source of information that I could hang around here all day long. smile.gif

Well, Iīm running out of ideas for this introduction...

blush.gif

...but thereīs one thing I wanted to do since Iīve stumbled across this forum: :bunny1: Post the bunny! laugh.gif

You wonīt catch me leaving the house without it, itīs always clipped in my shirt pocket. smile.gif
Iīve noticed that itīs very well liked around here, in fact some of the positive reviews on the board made my decision to buy it a lot easier. I had never had a piston filler before, just cartridges, so I was a bit hesitant, but after ten minutes with the M200 (itīs a blue one with a fine nib, by the way) all my doubts just vanished into thin air.
The fine nib suits my needs perfectly (I write small, mostly on graph paper, and fairly light handed). Itīs currently filled with brown ink from Waterman, that makes it a very smooth writer.
The overall build quality definitely seems solid - though I canīt comment on the new ones here, mine is the old model with the rounded cap and the two gold rings.

No, Ray, you aren't the only one.
I have never posted, nor shall I ever post, the bunny, the cloud9er nor the ninja. There are some things a man just can't do and keep his self-respect, and those are three of them.

Mac in Alberta (which is in the West).

PS. Welcome anyway, AD. I guess it takes all kinds of fountain pen nuts.

I also studied art history many moons ago in college, love the Duerer (sorry no umlaut) quote and your entry to the Sping writing was especially lovely. Welcome aboard! biggrin.gif

Herzlich willkommen, AD.

I grew up in Vienna, went to the international school in Billrothstrasse. Live in Israel now. I love Durer's etchings by the way, always impressed me what a master and sensitive draftsman he was. BTW, they are not really waiting for us in heaven you know wink.gif

You will enjoy this site, and may I suggest you take up an extra job because soon you'll want a Pelikan 140, and maybe I should try out a Parker 51 and wow this duofold is amazing and............... biggrin.gif

Thatīs nice to hear, Daniel! How did you like Austria? Sadly Iīve only been to Wien twice and thereīs never been an opportunity to see Dürerīs graphics in person at the Albertina (well, I was too young then to appreciate them as I do now, I guess). sad.gif

An extra job sounds very reasonable to me, though I didnīt even know about the 140 until now. Of course I want one! biggrin.gif Even caught myself eyeing a 120 on eBay...but Iīll withstand temptation - for now.

Well, I just enrolled in art history about a year ago, after growing a strong dislike of sociology, which I had studied for two years. So thereīs still plenty to learn. smile.gif

Glad you liked my contribution to the contest! Iīve always been a bit hesitant about posting my poems somewhere, but the nice welcome that everybody around here is giving me has completely taken away my concerns.

Hello AD and welcome to the Fountain Pen Nuthouse, where in no time at all, you will have one of the largest collection of pens known to mankind. How will this happen you ask? Well research shows that this places encourges such an addiction, but not just for pens, but different types of inks as well. I am sure that you will love it here. biggrin.gif

Your words were indeed prophetic! Iīm already browsing through the websites of both, manufacturers and vendors of pens & paraphernalia, a lot more frequently than I used to and intend to add to my collection over the course of summer. At the moment Iīm jonesing for a Pelikan 150 (F) to complement my 200...and while Iīm at it, why not get a small assortion of inks, just for varietyīs sake? OMG, it has already begun. biggrin.gif

Welcome Polyhistor (ok, please explain the name) yes, you are on your way to a very expensive but nice hobby, addiction or however you want to classify it. I am just glad I was able to get this far before I fell under the FP spell otherwise I would probably be out on the street with a shopping bag full of expensive pens LOL.....but seriously, glad you're here, enjoy!

Hello playpen! Iīm as well glad to be here. As for the name, a polyhistor is someone whose education and interests include about everything...take, for the probably most well known example, Leonardo who was indeed a Universal Man, willing to accumulate all the knowledge of his time.
Now, by choosing that name I did, of course, not want to suggest Iīm all knowing or something. wink.gif Iīm just trying to keep my mind open and learn, so I donīt overlook too many of the little connections (between seemingly completely different fields & topics) that make life interesting.
Nerd? Most likely! tongue.gif

A shopping bag full of pens...that sounds just drool.gif
playpen
I realize I should have specified which shopping bag I would be carrying....hmm...how about Fountain Pen Hospital...is that fashionable enough?? You should see some of the looks I get when I tote one of their bags around the streets of Manhattan. People just laugh!
Polyhistor
Oh, I didnīt want to say a shopping bag wasnīt elegant enough!
Rather was I thinking of a big brown bag full of nice FPs...and about how much Iīd want to own that bag. smile.gif

Nah, Iīd stay away from the red ones...made me do..."things"...canīt disclose...too terrible. wink.gif

Got a 45 that I donīt really like the nib of, never tried a 51 though...shouldnīt have said that, should I? tongue.gif

PS - The bunnyīs moving too fast to get him, thatīs because heīs always in a hurry...thatīs what he keeps telling me, at least.
