I have wondered about why the gold bands on pencils are either side of the cap/body join which looks a little odd when sitting next to the matching pen. But then, of course, there are the wind gaps on some pens. Are these specifically for pen/pencil sets?

I pinched these two pics from 'writetime' site of pens for sale and clearly visible is the neat matching of the widely spaced bands to the pencil bands. Are the wide spaced banded pens from pen/pencil sets?
