Full Version: Parker "51" Nib Alignment

I just received a "51" that is writes very well, except that the nib is not centered in the hood (i.e., the point of the nib is off-center from the pointiest part of the hood). Is there an easy way of turning the nib in the hood? It doesn't effect the function of the pen, just annoying that it's off enough to cause me to re-set my grip.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Hi, Rich.

The hooded nib in my Parker 100 has got the same problem, though that's due to my own handwriting... However, my Grandpa's old "51" also had its nib off-center (to the same side as his grandson's pen too!)

I, too, am wondering if there's an easy method to put the nibs right. Any help?

Cheers,

The only way to align the nib/feed and hood is to remove the hood and adjust the position of the nib assembly.

You must seal the threads when reassembled.

Rich,

This is not uncommon in a "51", it writes well but the off-centre nib just annoys the hell out of you, well me at least angry.gif

In the end you just have to take the hood off, give it all a good clean up and then get it all back in line, which always takes me about a dozen tries before I am finally happy. My wife not does not ask about the blue flames and smoke coming from my home office, she just knows I am aligning a "51" hood and nib blink.gif

Thanks Ron and Jim, I was afraid that might be the answer. Pen repair is not something I have attempted yet, and even taking a hood off is intimidating to me. But, this is just too small of a problem to warrant sending it out, so I'm going to have to give it a try, wish me luck! Hopefully the the flames and smoke won't scare my wife!

And Old Griz, you could always just send me one of those Shaeffers and it might convert me!

Best,
Rich
